Ethan Johnson, Floyd, Blanton and Will Compton will be on campus this weekend. Big weekend coming up for ND.

Talk about huge... Blanton committing will spread in the air and hopefully they all feel love. I wonder if any commits will be there other than Cave...

I don't see the offer for Compton coming anytime soon. And I'd consider it a bad thing if he did get an offer because it means that we missed out on a LB that already has an offer.

well there are thoughts about taking 5 LB's so if you think we are going to land 2 out of A Brown, S Filer, Sabino and Hale then I would call that a strectch. I think we have a shot with all 4 (more so with Filer and Sabino) but we very easily could miss on all 4 this is what so many where complaining about last year when we had offers out to Donald and others and we waited and got no one. You get offers out to kids who can play and Compton is in that category IMO, just one step below the 4 above.

I'm thinking Robert will pledge at camp too, but the hype was around a Brandon Newman verbal at the spring game too. He didn't, wanted to wait to be "100% sure", and people got irritable - which turned out to be for no good reason.

 

All I'm saying is, rather than take everything this speculating step-dad says as gospel and assume its a lock for when he visits, at least for caution's sake it might be wise to listen to some of what Robert says himself.

im with Calves on this...sure it is a big weekend to be sure...but lets all keep the expectations low while keeping our hopes high...if blanton commits, great! aswesome! if he doesnt, no boiog deal...all that matters is that signature on LOI day.

This is a big weekend, and I actually like Will Compton. I think the problem with Will's game tape is that he doesn't distinguish himself from the other LBs we have on board. I still would'nt mind him getting an offer. He's a rivals 250 guy and I see him getting a lot of attention in a month or two.

 

But he's back again and he seems to definately want that offer. I think it's a good thing that everyone coming this weekend SEEMS to have ND as a leader.

I still would'nt mind him getting an offer. He's a rivals 250 guy and I see him getting a lot of attention in a month or two.

Not to knock the guy, but another reason why I'm skeptical of Compton getting an offer (along with Mike's point) is that the Irish need to fill in a spot at OLB. We've got 2 ILB's on board, and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to take on a 3rd - especially if we aren't certain there is space for a 5th LB. At this point, I'm not so convinced that the Irish staff is certain of that at all.

 

Compton is 6'1" - 6'2" 215-220. Those aren't OLB dimensions, even if he is only a junior. His profile is much more similar to Paskorz's or Nagels, or even Posluszny's. Even plays RB on offense like them. Might have the talent, but I'm not so sure that the fit works out right now.

 

To me, the biggest news for this weekend aside from the Robert Blanton watch will be following is Ethan Johnson's reaction. This will be a lengthy visit for him, and you can bet the staff will definitely pay close attention to him. I'm really hoping we can woo him over.

I agree that he probably won't get an offer anytime soon unless he is one of those diamonds that the staff somehow managed to uncover. I don't think we are in bad standing with a number of our LB prospects, so if he gets an offer now, it is probably because the coaches think he is a stud.

What's the agenda for this weekend? Is it just a visit weekend or are they holding another camp? If just a visit weekend, that is another reason Compton may not get an offer because he won't get another chance to work out for the staff IMO.

wow, got some big boys coming to South Bend this weekend. I hope we get all 3 of Johnson, Floyd, and Blanton but even 2 out of 3 would make me ecstatic, even if nobody commits this week.

I'd think that Ethan Johnson would get some serious all day 1 on 1 attention, but then I think of a potential close on Blanton and he'll get all day 1 on 1 treatment..........bbuutt then I think of Floyd our biggest target left...nevermind he's coming BACK a few days later...good job coaches know they got their hands full with Blanton and Johnson that Floyds coming back for his own one on one. Would love to nabb all three of these guys and were are leading for 2 and part of the favorites for another.

Good point, it's definitely hard to imagine how the coaches are going to divide up the time among the recruits this weekend. Every one of them is HUGE for our class, and we really can't afford to whiff, especially on Floyd.
