im not sure will compton will get an offer from ND considering we're still very much in on sabino and filler. i've seen a few clips of compton at LB and wow i was really impressed with how he attacks the ball and how well he uses his speed.

I watched his clips as well and I agree with you. He is 6'2" 220 and his clips showing him playing just about every "skill" position on his team! RB, FB, Wide Receiver and of course, LB...oh yeah and one as PR. He is just flat out a football player and I wish I knew of him and his love of ND earlier. He would have become this (and other) boards sentimental favorite for an offer. can't quite determine the level of talent in his league (one of you guys can speak to that) but he is another Nagel, Paskorz lantern jawed lunch pail guy who looks like he really does have a lot of upside and were the LB group so deep and talented this year, he would definitely have an offer IMHO. Somehow, I sorta want this kid to get an offer and end up with us

Personally, I'm not too too amped about this kid as an ND prospect. He looks pretty good based on what little film there is on him at rivals, but we need our 4th LB to project as an OLB. I'm not sure his dimensions of 6'1"-6'2" 215 lbs calls for a future at OLB, even if he is only a junior. Plus, I have no idea if he can rush the passer based on the limited film on this guy (something you definitely need as an OLB). All the clips I saw were of him busting up run plays.

Now, if we get real serious about bringing in a 5th LB, instead of a 3rd DB or a 5th DL, then Compton would be on my radar for sure - moreso than the longshots of Beal or Hale. 'Til then though, I'll keep Compton's name in my back pocket.

I heard he shocked a lot of people at a ND camp. But I agree, with Sabino and Filer still within our reach, I can't see ourselves offering Will Compton unless Sabino and Filer commit elsewhere.

IF we did offer, he would probably commit on the spot. I would not expect an offer soon.

If Filer, Sabino, or Hale cross us off their list, he will be get an offer.

Rock n' Shark ...That's what I understand as well. For the record, I was not stating that I think Will should get an offer over anyone that currently has one but we have 3 now and may have room for 5 and he did receive a great report at the recent camp. It seems likely that we get at least 1 and maybe 2 of Hale, Filer and Sabino but if only 1 and on closer review and potential upside, I hope this kid gets his dream come true. Carries himself with class and confidence in the interview I read...wish him the best regardless...

Calves, what's your breakdown of our schollie list for this class.

for the record, he is not some scrub, he is already a four star recruit, and with his recent performances at the camps, he is really making a name for himself. I would have no problem with him being offered at all. Although, I like Nagel and Paskorz and think that they are going to be great, there is a difference, this guy is ranked significantly higher and he is a true LB.

I don't care where he is ranked because he went to camps. Omar is ranked a 3 star and has 5 star talent, but broke his leg and didn't go to any of combines. This kids offers are from ok schools like Missouri and such. We already have 3 linebackers and are in good standing with a couple left with 1 spot remaining. It's simple, he's not getting an offer unless we miss on all of them it has nothing to do with stars.

how many of his games have you attended? that's what i thought. If you read correctly I said he was already a four, before recent camps. And for all of those morons that say they don't care about stars. You don't watch the film, see the games, have any idea how to take measurables, guess what the ranking services do. So shut up, until you have the same ability they do.

Haha what a tool. These rankings services are you kidding me? XXXX the kids XXXX why don't you good god. I also beleive Rivals gave out there 4 stars last week.

Take it easy guys. IAB, Knight's entitled to his opinion and Knight, no reason for the name calling, take the high road. Man have people been testy around here lately.

Regardless of star rankings or otherwise, I agree with Knight at least one point and that is I don't see this kid getting an offer unless we totally miss on all 3 of Hale, Filer, and Sabino.

knight, ur being really mature. he's giving you his opinion without name-calling. can you do the same? this kinda stuff happens in a forum. please dont start name-calling because that wont be accepted here. you've done great so far and we appreciate your input, but please dont reply with...

"Haha what a tool. These rankings services are you kidding me? XXXX the kids XXXX why don't you good god. I also beleive Rivals gave out there 4 stars last week dipxxxx."

that has nothing to do with the topic. just shows immaturity.

and IAB, dont tell someone to shut up because they're giving their opinion

Others have addressed it but we've had issues with name calling recently, so the mods here probably won't turn a kind eye to your comments, guys. I'd suggest knocking it off real fast, just so that we all don't have to hear another lecture on being PC.

Calves, what's your breakdown of our schollie list for this class.

Its a little off topic, but I will give an answer.

For the most part, this is how I' see it shaking out:

QB - 1

RB - 1 (worthless prediction: Thomas)

TE - 2

WR - 3 (worthless prediction: Floyd and somebody - today, its G. Robinson)

OL - 4 (worthless prediction: Page)

DL - 5 (worthless prediction: E. Johnson)

LB - 4 (worthless prediction: Sabino)

DB - 3 (worthless prediction: Slaughter, Blanton, McCarthy)

If we snip a scholarship from this list to get the # to 22, I think its at RB - its the area of least need, compared to all the other positions that are still taking scholarships. If we snip another scholarship for some reason, its probably at DL - we've put out the fire with two NT's and two DE's, so the next guy would only be gravy; not a "necessity".

The murkiest area is on defense. I still see the Irish taking 9 players between LB and DL, and right now the DL should beat LB to that 5th scholarship. Though it is starting to look dim with a couple prospects, there are still 5 guys offered at DL, allowing the staff to narrow in on their top priorities there. Not the same luxury at LB. We gotta cover our needs with a 4th LB, before we can honestly tell ourselves we should turn away a DL prospect for the potential of a 5th LB.

You could make a case that LB gets 5 no matter what, by leaving the DBs with 2. But with 4 DB offers very high on the Irish, and all of them indicating some level of interest in deciding near or before September, I think that position gets filled up to the brim before the LBs even get their 4th verbal. I just don't see our staff deciding to cool their jets on a 3rd DB they're confident they could get a verbal from, in favor of a bigger roll of the dice for a 5th LB. I think this staff is tired of getting left at the alter late in the year, and with 4 LB's last year, 4 should do fine this year as well.

But at that point, its just educated guesswork. I definitely didn't see Trevor Robinson as a Husker, and nor did I see Omar Hunter as anything but a Wolverine. Take it FWIW. But those #'s are the most "predictable". Its not even how I'd do things if I were in charge, so its not inherently biased by what I would like to see as a fan - just me looking at the ND tea leaves, and seeing where they point to the most.
