is that her opinion or did he say that he was going to go there...?

The way she said it she made it seem that he had his mind made up and told her, but im not 100% sure

Whoa, his pickup would really "Solidify" our saftey position that much more. DB's need to start commiting fast....Blanton hopefully in a week...Slaughter needs to soon follow and he knows it that's why he's moving up his decision date. Jeremy Brown looks like for now you may get left out if these guys follow through with their plans.

i know Jeremy Brown is being recruited as both, so if we get all of our DBs on board then he can play WR which i think he'd prefer

good news, even if it is just a rumor. I always thougth McCarthy liked ND more than ppl thought he would and he wouldn't be turned off by 'competing' with his older brother. If I had a brother I think it would kick ass to play college football with him for a couple seasons and share that bond on the same team. We'll see what happens.

Knight, when did Slaughter change his date to. I have not heard this.

Rockne...He's "thinking" about moving it up to August while naming us his leader for his services at the moment.

We've had some recent history where HS students as sources didn't pan out so well - in fact they completely missed the boat. So not to be offensive to you at all, but.. well, after re-reading I think you even mentioned in your quote that there is some point to being leery - which I admittedly am. I hope this girl isn't just joshin' you, and that it truly checks out. Its not the first time we've heard ND as the lead horse for McCarthy's services though, so its not all that far fetched. This story would corroborate Dayne Crist's impressions of Dan at the spring game. I'm staying cautions, but I'm really hoping you're right. :)

I saw talk of him changing the date not too long ago - within the past 3-4 days if memory serves. He stated a top three of ND, LSU, and Michigan, with ND leading - in part due to the fact that they received a visit, while the others have not. He mentioned bumping his time frame up to August, but as Knight said, its just a thought; nothing set in stone.

I have to say it looks good when a Georgia prospect is focused on three separate schools, only one of which belongs to either the ACC or SEC. Doesn't hurt that he sees himself as a college corner.

Blanton, Slaughter, and McCarthy? Dang. Other than the pipe dream offer of Hill, those are our top DB offers, and all have been mentioned as anywhere from ND leans to ND locks. A nice little subplot to the long, mundane summer recruiting months. Now I'm really hoping Blanton commits when he visits next, and starts a domino effect.

I really hope this turns out to be true. I've thought for a long time that Dan would end up picking ND, considering we weren't really recruiting any other safeties (Will Hill is and always has been a pipe dream).

If Blanton comes on board soon and if the poster's info turns out to be true about McCarthy, I'd think we'd close up shop on DB recruiting. We are very deep in the secondary and I'd much rather see us use a scholarship on another DL or LB, instead of a 3rd DB.

I think Brown ends up at UF and Slaugther is going to be harder to land than most believe IMO.

id take 3 db's and brown as a WR if he still wanted to come.

I guess I have more faith in our current LBs and LB recruits than the average bear, but thats just me. After only bringing in 2 DB's last year, I'd be a little worried if we only brought in 2 more this year. Leaves little room for recruiting error in the 07 and 08 DB hauls, and could leave us with a really green defensive backfield 2-3 years from now. But the current needs are undoubtedly at LB and DL, so I see where you're coming from, totally.

Opinions aside shark, at least we'll have plenty of answers about our DB's by the end of the summer.

that would be a *great* haul, obviously. and i can't help think that the fact that we brought in a former DB, who also happened to coach DB's in the NFL, as our new DC has more than a little to do with why all these guys have us in their top 3.

i know this has been expressed before, but what a difference CB is making so soon for the irish.

and call me crazy, but i don't see a repeat of last year where we start losing defensive recruits left and right during the last few weeks. i think, and obviously this is only speculation, that CB is a "closer!"

Yeah, I agree with Claves about LB.....especially ILB not being the biggest corcern because of Toryan Smith going to be holding it down for years with McDonald/Poz/Nagel/Paskorz all slated for MLB for years to come. OLB is more of a concern for depth reasons. I think our defensive backfield isn't as "thin" as people like to think. One of our two starting corners could return for a 5th year next year. Add that with Ferrine, Walls, McNeil, Gray, and 2 guys this year perferrably Blanton and Slaughter and it's not so bad. Losing McCarthy wouldn't hurt that much, but it definently would be nice.

i doubt Ferrine comes back for a 5th. dont forget munir prince moved over to cb, and was all state as a junior i believe as a cb.

The thing here is people keep thinking Weis will turn away 5th years who are interested in coming back for some open scholarships. That couldn't be any further from the truth. Take Dwight Stephenson this year, he went into Weis' office saying he wanted to come back for that 5th year and Weis asked "why?" Dwight said he didn't want to leave ND and live the rest of his life wondering What if? Thats all it took for Charlies blessing to return. I'm positive that if a potential 5th year wants to come back and shows he is going to work his butt off then Charlie will always allow it.
