mlcspinner
Do you think Travis Thomas is a lock to be the starting RB? We have a lot of talent in the backfield.
IrishCalves
I think he's close to being a lock, but the talent beyond Thomas is too great to count out just yet. I think he's a personal favorite of Weis, and that Weis would love to have his leadership and versatility not only rewarded by being a stater, but he really wants those qualities on the field as much as possible. But, any one of the guys behind him brings something to the table. I think "lock" is too strong of term, if you ask me.

I remember charlie saying it was he was a lock during spring practices.
mlcspinner
I would love to see some of our speed out on the field. I think this is going to be the year of the running back at ND.
notredomer23
I originally wanted aldridge, but the more and more i think about it, i want thomas. I think Thomas is close to a lock

Guest NDgirl09
Also, just because Travis is a lock, it doesn't mean we won't utilize the other guys. I have a feeling it'll be a lot like last year how we used everybody when needed.
mlcspinner
I feel we that we didn't utilized the other guys. I think there were times that #3 just wasn't getting it done and we should have tried someone else. Some of the games last year we had no running game at all. Why not try to mix it up. Guest bluester2000
Last year there weren't a lot of other options. Aldridge was recovering from an injury and according to reports wasn't close to 100% even by the end of the season. Prince clearly didn't have the chops to make it happen (as evidenced by his move to the defensive backfield). Additionally, Walker was a perfect fit for the offense that we were running, with his cutback and patient running style, ability to pass protect, and catch the ball out of the backfield. If we had another option out of the backfield and a better offensive line the playcalling would have looked vastly different.
BlackIrish42
i waver on this point but i think TT will start but i don't think it's a lock. or let me put it another way, TT is gonna be pushed in ways i don't think darius was the last 2 seasons. even though the evidence of CW's reign so far points to him *not* using a lot of backs, i cannot believe that aldridge and AA won't get significant time this year, if for no other reason that they bring such different and valuable skill sets to the backfield. and i guess i shouldn't count out jabbie either... Guest irishrick
tHOMAS WILL SPEND TIME ON DEFENSE, IF CHARLIE TURNS LOOSE THE HORSES WE WON'T NEED THOMAS IN THE rb SLOT, wE GOT SOME YOUNG STALLIONS AND if cw turns em loose WE WILL BE VERY,VERY GOOD TILL THE USC GAME, we just might have a game like the bush push, i see great things for the irish . go irish
Scotty88
I don't think there are any locks, still think he's got the upper hand. I also think there is little to no possibility of TT going back to the D.
mlcspinner
I don't see TT going back on D.
Guest domerdude
There is NO-NO-NO-NO chance of TT going back on D. He hasn't practiced or played there since Jan. He isnt a LB 1st. he is a RB. He will "start" the season as the primary RB. He MIGHT slide to no 2 depending on the competetion. Thats the key is that we have 3-4 possible guys to take reps behind quarter. as of sept it will be 1TT 2JA 3AA 4RH
irishziggy
no chance TT goes back to D. JA will get some carries, and AA and RH will be in the mix getting some playing time by the end of the year.
ND FANATIC
I think that TT will start and and get a slight majority of the carries this year - barring any injury. I think that CW is going to reward his sarifice of going to the D last year. I'm not saying that TT doesn't have the talent to start, he does, but I just think that CW is going to reward him with the start.

Guest NDisNCin2010
i think its a committee approach all year long, CW inserting various members of the stable at diff times. different situations, different plays, etc. I love TT as much as the next Domer, but i was never high in him as a stud RB (runs too upright for my taste...no elusive moves, not a true burner) but if he was this good why did he sit behind Darius (good, not great) Walker for 3 years? if allen, hughes, aldridge, jabbie dont see significant snaps ill be disappointed the question i have is: who do we think is going to be the FB for all the RB's? Guest loweND
I think our coaching staff will use the younger running backs quite a bit this season. Mainly because, this is our 'rebuilding' year - and Thomas is only going to be around for one more season. My guess is Thomas gets 14-15 carries a game. Aldridge gets a number close to that, and Allen gets 5-6 per game. I'm expecting a big upgrade from our running game this year.
domeanddomer
I'm expecting a big upgrade from our running game this year. Lofty expectations from a new Oline don't you think. Stranger things have happened though...and I don't think they could be much worse than last years line. I definitely see us running more...but the success of that strategy will only be revealed by time.
