AUSTIN -- Two Texas freshmen offensive tackles, J'Marcus Webb and Roy Watts, are transferring, coach Mack Brown announced Wednesday.

Webb played in 12 games on the line and on special teams last season. Watts redshirted and did not play. In statements released by the team, both players said they wanted to find more playing time with another school.

"If I want to have an opportunity to play more my best chance is to transfer. Everyone has been very supportive at Texas and I'll always be pulling for them," Webb said.

Any chance we pursue?

Webb was high touted out of HS, but I don't know if he'll come here and how much playing time he'd get here either. We might not be deep depth wise, but I think we have the best talent starting wise.

You really think we have the most talented OL in the country??

No, I just worded it wrong. I meant we have an offensive line right now that I don't think there will be any glaring weakness' for the next couple of years and it's the best line we could hope for. Definently not the best in the country.

Our rising sophomore class's offensive linemen were rated the highest in the country coming in. And last year's haul was rated highly, too. So tthose two classes taken together would have to be some of the most talented in the country.

Now our juniors and seniors are another story, but if you are looking at young talent, then yeah I think we have the most or right at the most in the country.

So you judge talent on recruiting rankings instead of on-field performance? interesting...

Caliber, GREAT post. You've got to understand that many folks here go by what they read. We'll see how these guys perfrom over the next two years. Keep in mind that C. Stewart is no longer an OL and B. Webb may never make it past the practice squad when you say that this line is the best in the country. Olsen and Young will be as good as advertised. The rest (including Carufel) are questionable at this point.

also webb was a top 100 player according to someone on another board, i'll look it up, the other kid redshirted, so still has all of his eligibility and they would come in with this years class, making another tackle unnecessary.

Not saying we do, but then who has the best OL in the country? Where are the stats to back it up? How can any one team say they are the best at OL? There are probably 5+ teams than can claim the best OL.

Best OL is too subjective, IMO.

Not sure how valid but I heard that atleast one of those 2 Texas transfers had grade issues, not sure about both.

As for Webb, not an expert on this nor do I know too much on him. But what I have always heard is that he has a very high ceiling but is quite the project. A kid that we will probably not hear much from until atleast his 3rd season. Who knows but just what I have always heard on Bartley Webb.

Many people are talking about taking 4 OL in this 08 class but my preference is to take a 5 man OL class for 08. We still need to build that depth chart. 1 or 2 transfers will put us back into a hole. Thank you very much Ty and Bob.

hard to judge guys who haven't played yet other than how they were rated.

But if I were an offensive linemen looking to transfer for playing time because I couldn't get on the field where I was, I would look at those ratings and wonder.

I mean, if you are considering young players, how many freshman offensive linemen do you think played a lot last year?

the answer is not many.

great post. Yeah, I know what I read.

I see you seem to know much more about these guys abilities than anyone, having seen them play and practice daily and all. I am glad to know an expert like you is here to pass judgement.

Oh and you forgot to deingrate Wenger.

so many things to get to in this one

Thats the whole point, why not wait to judge them until they see the field? USC has like 10 5-star RB's but i wouldn't say they have the most talented group of RB's in the nation because 3 of them havent stepped foot in college yet and the other 7 didn't set the world on fire last year

Which is why I can only judge lineman i've actually seen play quality minutes, so outside of Young we don't know if the rest of the bunch will be All Americans or career backups. Obviously i prefer the former rather than the latter

I love some people get so defensive when someone disagrees with their take. If Vegas is no expert, what makes you an expert? Thats right, none of us are experts, which is what makes message boards so fun, people offer up different takes.

Oh and you forgot to deingrate Wenger.

perhaps you mean "denigrate" but I don't think Vegas spoke unfairly about any of the OLineman, he offered up his honest opinion of Webb and then said Carufel and the rest were questionable which they are. "Questionable" doesnt = "lousy"

hahaha okay whatever.

you guys are a riot.

Apparently it's okay if you disagree with me but not if I disagree with you.

whatever again.

The question was would either of these guys want to transfer here.

I say, if they look at the young talent, they will look elsewhere.

If you're a betting man, I would bet you they won't come here.

what say you?

(And thanks for making fun of a typo-)

Rocket, I was under the impression that ND doesn't accept many trransfer student/athletes (very few in the past I believe).

But I think that you are correct in saying they probably wouldn't look hear because after sitting out a year due to transfering, they would be buried in the depth chart and have to fight for playing time, which apparently they don't really want to do or they wouldn't transfer in the first place.

The way I've heard it, they're transferring in part due to academically falling behind. So any transfer to ND is pretty much out of the question.

IC, if thats the case, we are definitely out of the picture.

Chiro, have to say that your post..."Everyone knows that if you don't keep stirring when the heat is high that the whole deal will burn" is my favorite post ever on this board. The funny thing is that I'm not trying to stir the pot. I just tell it like it is. El senor, you, Henry Hynoski, and I need to take back this board!

War, Fishers, IN!

How did I miss your post, rocketsurgery? I am SO SORRY that I did not respond to your KIND words. But, I'll simply say, "Thank you", for noticing genius when it rears it's beautiful head!

Henry Hynoski was last years model, and although the mileage was quite good, a new and better model has emerged by the name of Masengo Kobongo!
