I read an article today on Rivals in which he talked about how Miami was his team growing up and how there's some pressure for him to stay home. This is the first ever indication i've seen that Sabino does indeed have interest in UM. I know that Corwin is doing everything he can to bring Sabino up north too. So how do you think this one ends up playing out?

I had heard that UNC was his leader and that he wanted to get out of Florida. If he now has interest in the U, then it figures to be ND, UM, and UNC.

i think ND has a legit shot at landing sabino but landing a stud south florida recruite will always be a challenge. one thing that'll help NDs chances is that sabino has experssed some interest in leaving the state of florida for college.

I'm not overly confident that we'll land him. Right now I can say that I am very confident that we've got a legitimate shot with him though. IMO it will all come down to how he feels at ND if/when he visits. Corwin is recruiting him like crazy, but competition for him is definitely fierce. We could definitely use a player of his caliber at OLB in our new defense. Sabino could probably start as a frosh if he came to ND.

I don't know about start, but he'd be cycled in there. People forget that not alot of true freshman "Start" period. Sam Young was the exception last year and Clausen will problably be the other legit "starter" imo. Kerry Neal will play alot, but will be cycled in there with the older guys. Reggie Bush didn't even start until his jr. year.

Very true. Reggie didn't start, but lets not forget about all the talent USC had at RB when he arrived. Right now the state of our OLB is pretty bad. Hopefully Neal comes in a plays as expected or we may be in trouble this year. I think Sabino would be given a legitimate shot at starting, and would have a very real chance of earning a spot and possibly pushing out a guy like John Ryan at LOLB.

I actually think we're in decent shape at OLB, we're just lacking experience. We have guys like John Ryan, Mo Richardson who is a personal favorite of mine, Scott Smith, AV, and I'm sure there's some more guys who I can't think of off the top of my head right now. And of course we have our high school guys coming in sometime in June, and the LB class in '08. I think OLB will soon be one of my favorite defensive positions for ND.

I think he is truly sincere about his interest in ND but my gut tells me that in the end it ends up being one of those where he really liked ND but we finish 2nd/3rd. And distance played a role.

Great shape! I feel that our 2007 class coming in is going to compliment our returnees from last year in the linebacking corp. Sure we missed out with Donald, Wilson and Edwards...but we added great role players that in my opinion will make an impact before they graduate. By the way, any thoughts on Harrison Smith, and if he may see some play at the linebacker position?

Regardless, Darius Fleming, Anthony McDonald and David Posluszny are big gets for us, and Sabino would also add to our new Nasty look. Its fantastic that some of the top talent in regards to linebackers have us on their list. 8) Go Irish!!!

McDonald will be a great one for us, dudes dedicated to the weightroom.

No, Harrison will definitely play safety. I predict he'll start at free safety when he gets his chance. He is pretty fast with 4.4 speed I believe and we shouldn't waste that at linebacker, where we are in pretty good shape right now. Just wondering, what made you think he would get some time at linebacker?

Because he's big and hits like a Mack Truck, but no way of him playing LB. Just because someone is so good at one position people wanna always switch him somewhere else and make him average like the rumblings of people wanting to move Ragone from TE to WR because he is fast but they forget that is not elusive in anyway and he would become just another WR, good but wouldn't be elite like he WILL be at TE. Leave em' where they're at.

I'm with most of the guys here. I think we have a good shot at him, for a few simple reasons. We're showing him a lot of love, perhaps the most out of all his suitors. We have Corwin Brown on the trail, and we've had a good history with early enrollees. Pretty much everyone who has enrolled early in the past two years is in line for playing time, baring injuries.

I'll join the pessimist camp on Sabino. Agree we're showing lots of love, but in the end he will be at the U. I think he will wait to let things play out and that will allow for local influencers to be in his ear and allow him to get more comfortable with the idea of staying home.

I really like our chances with Sabino. I just want to get him to visit and see where it goes from there.

Basically because of the way he does hit. And I was also thinking he may be putting some weight on?
