Sweat will soon narrow his list down to 3 and has named Ohio State and Notre Dame as 2 of his final 3. He said the final spot will come down to Michigan or Penn State, with LSU and Florida having outside chances for that 3rd spot. He said that ND and OSU are equal at the #1 spot.

Due to having 3 on board, LB is obviously not our top priority but we can use 1-2 more. We especially need to add another OLB. McDonald can play OLB but will probably man the one of the middle spots.

Sweat loves to change his mind, but this sounds like he almost has it narrowed. I thought Florida and Ohio St. led. Nice to see we still are right there. A bit surprising actually.

If Sweat committed to us would we still go hard after Filer and Sabino?

I know we've heard the rumblings about Sabino favoring us now, but it was never nationally known, just posters saying that. He actually had articles where he stated that UNC was his favorite, so I'm guessing they still are. I gotta think we stay going after Filer/Sabino, and that we'd take one of them.

Beal has been the one changing his mind the most, I'm not counting on Beal at all. If we land Sweat, I don't think that will change anything with Filer or Sabino. We definitely need one more OLB.

What ND needs to do is play better on defense and let the product sell itself. If recruits see a agressive style then they will give ND a shot. All we have to do is play better on Defense and we'll be O.K.

If Sweat came, that we would we'd have 3 ILB already.

i agree NY.

Knight, I know that too, so one of the guys we're lookin at as ILB would be OLB, im guessin Filer, but right now we're lookin at Filer as an ILB

sweat would be an ILB while sabino would be an OLB, im not sure it would effect filer. if filer wanted to come to ND im sure CW would welcome him aboard.

I would still go after Filer and Sabino. Sweat is a great player and I would be thrilled to have him. I had pegged him for tOSU 3 weeks ago, but I guess now we have a shot. Six LBs might be one too many, but how can you not accept great talent at a position of need?

I agree irish21. Take who you can get when you can. I don't think anybody would complain getting any one of the three of Filer, Sabino, or Sweat. However, you do have to think about a numbers standpoint too sometimes. You have to think the ND coaches have the 3 ranked in a particular order for who they would prefer. So, one guy might be left out if he indeed does wait too long. Right now many seem to think thats Filer. We'll see.

OSU posters think we have no shot at Sweat. It'd be heartbreaking to OSU if he committed to ND, after everyone seemed to claim his as a lock.

Yes, we can say no and we will say no if LB fills up. Just because someone is good and we offer tham, they know that the position is filling up and get it while the gettins good. If Filer doesn't want to show the love back like he hasn't then he'll be left out and im fine with saying sorry all filled up to him. We do not have alot of scholarships to give out and just because someone is good doesn't mean we can ignore our #'s. Mustain, I think he was good too right? we said no because he had his opp. to commit to us before the 2nd spot filled up. We can't take 6 LB's in one year you need to balance that # out year after year and can't just stock up big time in one year, they're all in the same class. I would want all the LB's we offered but not alot of ND fans are realistic with "We have limited scholarships", besides I don't think Sweat comes here and therefore Filer won't be left out....yet.

I second that Ik23. I think 5 is our max this year at LB (as we have some much needed positions to fill) and if it's Sweat and Filer or Filer and Sabino or whatever combination, then first come, first served.

Yeah, we can't take kids just because they want to come to the party late. We hae to careful with schollies because next year we are looking like we'll have commits in the mid to high teens if we take 21-22 this year. Therefore if a kid like Filer wants to wait for the AAA game, he'll probably end up being left out looking in.
