great job shark...nice work

Very balanced list. Nice work shark.

That top 4 is just crazy though. Any one of those guys can be #1, they're all so damn impressive on film. It will be very tough to have a consensus #1 overall player this year.

Pretty soon the Rivals 100 will be out, and we'll see how close you were to the "experts".

Shark, 2 quick questions

why Ayles higher than Rudolph?

why Ethan Johnson higher than Forston?

I may disagree with some of the rankings but i give you all the credit in the world for taking the time to make it, good stuff

Shark, 2 quick questions

why Ayles higher than Rudolph?

I based the rankings on a lot of things (Tapes, analysts opinions, offer lists, etc...). Most of the analysts seem to agree that Ayles is the top TE in the nation and I tend to agree with them. Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped we have Rudolph, but I like Ayles a tad better. Kyle needs to fill out a bit. IMO, Ayles seems more ready for the next level.

why Ethan Johnson higher than Forston?
Johnson is higher than Forston has more to do with how much I like Johnson than it does with what I think of Forston. Johnson's tapes are very impressive and doesn't have the luxury of playing on an all-star team like Forston does.

Interesting perspective, thanks for the reply

also, a few things to edit (i know u know all this already)

Mike Brewster - Ohio St

Patrick Johnson - Miami

Wes Horton - USC

DJ Shoemate - USC

Maurice Simmons - USC

Nigel Carr - Florida St

Stephen Good - Oklahoma

Nice work, shark

Nice shark....Like the list

Great list shark, thanks for taking the time to make these.

Shark, how good is Brandon Moore?

He is the 50th best player and the 95th? I mean if he goes to ND does that mean we have two more top 100 players :-)

and by the way I do disagree with Blake Ayles and Rudolph. I think more analysts think that Rudolph is better.

Other than that, no problems..good list.

Out of the remaining candidates that are uncommitted which ones are to be considered "solid" for ND? Or which ones do we have the best shot at nabbing?

Has anyone else put Cwynar in the top 100 or is that a little bit of ND loyalty showing through?

I've got to say I like our class so far, but I would like 1 or 2 out of the top 20. And it is possible that we get none. Perhaps this time we put out too many offers too early? Just thinking out loud. Of course, for the sake of full disclosure, I admit to being one of those people who thought we put out too few last year. In the world of recruiting, is it possible we went from being Father Bear to Baby Bear and skipped over the "just right" formula?

I also like the class so far, and like you, I thought we put too few offers out last year, but that may have been because we thought we had a whole bunch of "silent verbals" that didn't pan out.

I think on another thread, Charlie Weis was quoted that he offers a recruit based on three qualities - character, academics and football... in that order(?). So, I think this year, Charlie is loading up on high integrity, team-oriented kids who can balance academics and football.

And so far, it's working... the early recruit acceptances this year seem to be a slightly higher calibre (per recruiting analyss) than last year... so you can't dispute the approach.

Another thought, for all we know... the glut of offers may not be as generous as it seems, perhaps there are hidden restrictions .. Eg. he offers 8 OL (for argument's sake), but only 2 of those have an offer to NSD, whereas it's first-come, first-served for the other 3 slots among he other 6 offerees.

I tend to think these rankings are restricitve, based mostly on demonstrated, or potential, football prowess... but character counts a long, long way.

Would you, for instance, take a 3* athlete with 5* drive/ethic/character than a 5* athlete with 2 or 3* drive/ethic/character.

I think that 5* character person will get more out of their 3* athleticism than vice-versa... plus, for the team, they'll make others better too.

I think a good example is Mike Richardson... worked his tail off... got drafted.

nice post 1qa and I see what you're saying. Mike Richardson was a very hard worker and he definitely got better for us as he got more experience and playing time at corner, for a while there he was basically toasted every play but he really improved and turned things around by this past year.

Anyways, I see what you are saying about character and work ethic, two very important parts of football (I.E. we would not like to have a bunch of scumbags that will curb stomp an opposing player), however CW is not a miracle worker and its simply naive to believe we will be able to compete with and beat elite teams with average talent. I'm not blasting anyone we have, just saying what I've said all along, fans of Notre Dame football, the game, want players and teams that can compete and ultimately win. All 85 guys on scholarship could be saints and receive the Noble Peace Prize, but if they are losing by 3 TDs to USC or Michigan, nobody is gonna care that they are hard workers or good character guys.

As Sean Connery once said, "losers whine about why they didn't win, winners go home and f*ck the prom queen" haha
