anyone see his tape on Rivals?

he is lighting quick for such a big guy...damn, i thought he was a NT/DT type, run stopper,...but from what i saw id say put him at DE/edge rusher.

he is big, fast and relentless in his game tapes, and on the combine drills his footwrok is like a cornerback (well, not really, but damn-the kid really is cat quick for his size)

used to light a candle for Filer to be irish, but i think im gonna switch to Marcus Forston.

Go get him Bernie! UMiami already has 3 DT/DE signed up for 2008...we have a shot with this guy!

I thought the same thing about the 3 DT's, but then I heard what they've been saying since the onset: Miami's plan is to bring in 4. Still though, Forston might feel more "loved" by a national program that is in dire need of DL. He HAS to think his odds are good, if ND keeps switching Olineman to fill needs there.

Forston Film

If you notice on the 2nd play, he lined up as an end. While they're apparently recruiting him as a NT now, I think he might end up as the 3-4 "DT", who plays end most of the time, but would get kicked inside with 4-3 looks.

That being said, long odds. At least he said he'll come up for a visit, so we've got a chance to impress.

kid looks awesome, just have a hard time believing we can land him at ND. hate to get my hopes up....................

Well, not to be "glass half full man" this morning, but I like our chances with any kid that wants to visit. I always have. The main reason was "the feeling" that some of the guys get when they step on campus. The "feeling" is enough to sway some of the guys to ND.

...but, we have a new secret weapon. In addition to the visit, we have CB. CB has shown me so far that he is capable of pulling off miracles. I am completely sold on CB and his ability to get his guys.

We will be hard pressed to get a kid out of Liberty City to come up. Armando lives in Miramar (suburb). He will visit, he will like it, but he will be at the U. Shannon will not let a fellow Northwestern Alum leave the state unless he wants him to. And shannon does not want Forston to leave.

If it does come up that he is signing with ND, we have no worries at NT or DT. the kid is an absolute animal.

appreciate Shannons ability to get "his guys"...but in the end it is Marcus Forston's decision to make, not Shannons. all this talk about "if Shannon wants him, he will go to UM...." or "if Shannon ALLOWS him to go to ND" is bunk.

in the end if a kid and his family "allows" a coach to make the decision for him, probably not a kid ND would want anyway...

from what ive read on MF, he is his own man and will do what HE wants, not the what the coach of a local university wants.

IMO, I see Forston as a 3-4 DE and a 4-3 DT.

Yeah... I understand what both of you are saying. On one hand, the odds are very improbable to get him, considering the track record of kids from where He's from. On the other, you have to realize he is his own self, and that nothing is inevitable with a kid's decision in the recruiting world. Just because they landed 8 guys there in a row before him, doesn't mean that Forston doesn't have the guts to make his own decision, rather than the one his HS coach would want for him.

it's all about staying close to home so the family can see him play. kids from the Miami schools (NW, Carol City, etc. ) don't leave the area very often. When was the last ND recruit out of Liberty City? I grew up down there and maybe i am missing someone.

He won't go further north than UF.

i totally agree, ND will miss more often then not when it comes to recruiting kids from south florida. yeah ND landed armando allen last year but he's the first miami kid to come up to ND since...well since.

Why did CaneSport feel the need to tease ND fans with that article?

Forston is a Cane, regardless of any articles you read.

the one good thing is Forston has dreamt about leaving his bad neighborhood.

if he wanted to leave his neighborhood then there's a good chance that he comes here, but more than likely he's a Cane.

Understood Irishman. Completely understood. More often than not, Miami kids don't fly the coup, and they rarely would fly the coup for South Bend. They do usually end up a 'Cane, and if not they're usually a Seminole, Gator, or go to a smaller school from Florida.

In statistical terms, there is a definite line of best fit for the data - one that points to Miami, and other Florida schools - but there are almost always outliers within a set of data too. Maybe that outlier was just Armando Allen, as dangeruss noted, but when Forston talks about plans to visit USC, and ND, and talks about wanting to leave his neighborhood like ziggy points out, it indicates that there is a possibility that Forston could become an outlier too. Not a very good one compared to the rest of the data, but a chance nevertheless. I'm probably going to lose some people with the statistics analogy, but I hope you at least see what I'm trying to get at.

That in mind, I simply can't jump on board with the idea that, because of a strong trend we see, he will be a Cane, Seminole, or Gator, end of story. Its too abstract to look at just a collection of previous cases, or our collective experiences with a region.

The best way to look at this is to listen to what he says, understand his experiences, and try to see the situation through his eyes. Its what his eyes see and interpret that makes the decision, not ours. If you still want to say, "He's not coming to Notre Dame, end of story" I can't stop you, but I can't in good conscience write him off, so long as he's still singing to the tune of multiple out of state schools. Thats all I've got for Forston for now.

On a general note, Miami is still recovering from the aftermath of a horrendous two year stretch. I'm not saying this has anything to do with recruiting, but the Bryan Pata shooting was a terrible tragedy, and can't be ignored when talking about the program's tough times, and the adversity they've faced.

They brawled with LSU two years ago, and brawled with FIU last year. The team lost their winnings way, and Coker got canned. They have a new head coach, who, while a "Miami man", has never held that title before, so he's a relatively unknown quantity. All of those things could easily weigh on the mind of high schoolers and their families, both when thinking of the best football and educational decision.

If its 5 years ago, I'm not so sure Armando Allen leaves Miami. But Miami isn't the same recruiting juggernaut it was after their NC runs. Until Shannon gets a chance to show some results, it will be a tougher sell for some of the kids, even within Florida. Some will always be "Miami" kids through and through, but others won't be the same "slam dunks" they were 5 years ago.

Yes, IC, very well put indeed. We're not out of it till we're out of it on any individual, including Marcus Forston, regardless of past results or probabilities.

Randy Shannon is NOT going to let these S. Florida kids get out of Dodge. Let's look elsewhere.
