Could be the next Garret Wolfe

I'm personally a fan of the other guys we're going up against in his top 5. Despite the offers, no USC mention, and no Florida mention. :D

If the schools he listed in his 5 stay roughly the same, I think our competition will be Arkansas and Auburn. Arkansas is going to run the rock a lot, and Auburn is a closer alternative to ND as far as successful football programs go. Thats just my take on it. But hearing we lead for him is great news.

Well, I am encouraged that we lead but there is at least one substantial roadblock to overcome. It appears that he wants early playing time. While I know Charlie has said that he will play the best players on the team, the ND depth chart at RB has to be a concern in the back of his mind. Here is the quote.

"I want to see how much everyone wants me," Thomas said. "I don't want to sit on the bench, so I want to go where they need me. I'm gonna hold out as long as I can to see who really wants me."

this is the kid they say runs like Barry Sanders...how sweet would it be we got him!?

FWIW: USC has offered him.

Stank, I see what you're getting at, but I think there's a subtle difference. This is how Jonathan Baldwin, WR prospect, addressed the same topic of playing time:

"I'm just giving everyone an opportunity to recruit me," Jonathan Baldwin said. "I want to get a good education and that's a main priority for me. I also don't want to redshirt. I would like to jump right into it..."

Baldwin directly appeals to seeing the field, and says, "I don't want to redshirt." Thats much more direct, and puts any coaching staff in an awkward position: how do you promise a kid that you've only seen on tape the opportunity to play, over guys that are already on campus?

Meanwhile, Thomas talks about how badly he's wanted. To me, his approach says that he's confident that if he's wanted, he's good enough to see the field. His approach puts more of the pressure on himself, than with Baldwin. So yes, both want to see the field, but the issue isn't as pressing with Thomas.

Plus, Weis has a very good track record of playing guys early. He played 18 true freshman last year, and probably would have played more if it weren't for injuries. So I think Weis will be able to work through that issue.

I think its important to note to C Thomas that T Thomas leaves after this year which leaves 2 bruisers in JAldridge and R Hughes and only one speedster in A Allen. So basically he only competes with one player of similar skill set... Basically he would see the grass. Just a matter of how much he earns. At a minimum he'd be returning kickoffs his frosh year.

Well said DomerDude, couldn't agree more. On top of that, our offensive strength for the next two years is going to be the running game. We will need a lot more bodies to carry the load than in DW's day....

He is a good player but still looking for his first offer from the big-3.

Ohio State, Texas, and USC.....?

He has an offer from USC, isn't that enough? also Auburn who spits out top RB's in the pros every year offered. Florida doesn't produce that many RB's with the exception being Emmit Smith which was 20 years ago.

i really want this kid.

Looking at his highlight tape, he'd be a welcome addition, he looks like a beast out there...

good lord. i had heard his tape was just as good if not better than mcguffie's. no doubt kid has some footwork.

No doubt the kid's a talent, but there was some dang sloppy defense in that video too. Don't expect him to be that successful with the cut in front of a LB in college. Don't expect all those holes either. He looks good against that competition at least.

Sat at the Sandstone bar last night with my building contractor and we discussed his beloved LSU Tigers and how they creamed the irish last year. He GLOATED as he described the look on his Irish buddies' faces as LSU literally ran away with the game. With that being said. He flat out told me that until Notre Dame stops recruiting big 10 speed and starts recruiting SEC speed that he and all LSU fans would be happy to embarrass us every year. He did say that "Old Chucky" would probably wise up and decide that speed wins championships, not grades! OUCH!

That's funny Chiro, maybe your buddy would be kind enough to pencil Charlie in, maybe one of those fashionable Indiana power lunches...I'm sure Charlie would love any input he can get, especially someone who knows absolutely nothing about Irish recruiting......look at the name on the title of the thread....Florida ain't B11 country.
