IrishCalves
Of the offered RB's (Ryan Williams, Darrell Scott, Cyrus Gray, Sam McGuffie, and Carlton Thomas), which one do you want wearing blue and gold in 2008?
miragesmack
All of the above. Although I'll take Scott. He seems like he is more likely to make it here, and stay her, than McGuffie. IMO.
dangeruss
DARRELL SCOTT
IrishCalves
Ha... I didn't throw my two cents in. I guess why I'm so interested is that it doesn't really look like Notre Dame is going after one type of back. Scott is a big, physical guy. Cyrus Gray physically looks like a more polished and exciting Munir Prince type. McGuffie has some kind of agility and receiving ability. And Thomas is a short but incredibly quick type of back. I think in an ideal world, regardless of where interest levels are, I'd like to have Carlton Thomas. Picking up recruits from Florida would hopefully help lay a foundation, and the guy is flat out good. The Irish RB stable already has a big, fast yet bruising type runner in the backfield (Aldridge) and a sledgehammer (Hughes). Allen is the all world speed guy, but I think I'd like to see a quick guy with moves in the backfield to complement the other guys.
dangeruss
i'd guess i would go with.... 1. darrell scott 2. claton thomas 3. sam mcguffie 4. ryan williams 5. cyrus gray
DiegoIrish
I like McGuffie and Thomas, those two seem to be the shifty style backs with breakaway speed. Right now we seem to have a lot of straightline speed in Allen/Aldridge for the future and those two would be a nice complement of styles. Guest NDisNCin2010
id have to say McGuffie...on entertainment value alone...he is a bonafide Super Human Freak...a typical Saturday for him would go something like this: Does a backflip off the Golden Dome, landing on top of the Basillica, scales the outside wall, enters and attends mass before the game, does continuous back handsprings on the walk to the Stadium from Mass, and then high jumps over the Stadium wall onto the 50 yard line, calls the coin flip, and flips himself while the coin is in the air...then returns the opening KO for a TD, jumps into the press box from field level, and rubs Pat Hadens balding head for good luck. miragesmack
^ Is that the start of the 'Legend of Sam McGuffie?'
da coach
I would take mcguffie hands down...with the RB class we brought in the 2 previous years (Aldridge / Prince / Allen / Hughes)...he would fit in as a perfect change of pace back or split out to WR...Think of how Reggie Bush was used at USC. Not to mention he has the athleticism to be an all american corner. Scott is a great player and I suppose this argument is similar to that of Ginger or Mary Ann (Gilligan's Island for those who don't know)
irishziggy
cant really go wrong with any of these guys. i feel content that we're going to get 1 of them and i'm fine with it. 2 would be great, but 1's fine.

nd1baby
Superfreak McGuffie. Would give the program a zoo or circus-like quality. Fun for the whole family.
MikejND
I'd take Scott, he's the most ready
Scotty88
Ditto to what Russ said in both his posts.. and I'd say Scott even if he wasn't a Ventura guy. I think he will be a very special player wherever he ends up. I think it's good that he wants to commit early and help whoever recruit unless it's FSU...I'm hoping Booker doesn;t come back to sting us again by getting in Scott's ear. irish21
McGuffie is a freak and would take him over anyone in the nation.
IrishCrazy
McGuffie then Scott but don't know that we really have a shot at McGuffie-just seems like he'd end up at a "bigger" school...LSU, A&M, OU...just a feeling whereas Scott Ithink we have a real shot
Guest Bluesig
1 A and B. Darrell Scott and Carlton Thomas 2. Ryan Williams 3. Sam McGuffie 4. Cyrus Gray
Guest grover
In case any of them read this post, let me first say that they are all tremendously talented, and would love to have any of them. That being said, my #1 would be Sam McGuffie, followed by a #1A Darrell Scott. McGuffie is just so unbelievably athletic and explosive. He is a danger to score every time he touches the ball. Talk about a game-breaker! Plus, if he is a package deal with Shugarts, even better. Scott is the complete package and with his size, speed, and ability. He also seems to have all-american written all over him. I would like to see ND do everything they can to land both!
HeliND
1 A and B. Darrell Scott and Carlton Thomas 2. Ryan Williams 3. Sam McGuffie 4. Cyrus Gray I was thinking the same thing
