There are few quarterbacks in the country that are attracting more interest from college coaches than Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame's Dayne Crist. Find out the latest on Crist as well as recruiting news from around the country in the National Blitz.

As much as it would be great for crist to come here, i think its down to usc and ND and it looks like fUSC is gonna win. Believe me i want him to come here. I say fUSC leads us right now 51-49. My thinking for this is why he would come to a school when he would probably only play his senior year. This is just my take on him.

That's the same if he went to $C, that is why LSU would be the most likely pick if he wanted to get playing time early. And from what was said, he had a blast on his visit down there.

If he went to USC, Crist would be far separated from any real talent at QB.

But I think it comes down to if he believes that Petey will stay past this next year. There is a very loud buzz in Cali that this is Petes last season. It is getting him killed on the recruiting trail as UCLA and other PAC-10 teams are getting commits who would have been Petey's a year ago.

Based on interviews I've heard from the kid, he knows wherever he wants to go he's going to face competition. Last year, the Irish got the #1 signal caller in Clausen. In 2005, the top QB prospect (depending on who you asked) was Mark Sanchez (USC) or Ryan Perrilloux (LSU). He's well aware that his favorites have plenty of talented guys ahead of him.

So really, I think its going to come down to comfort where he is, student body, coaching staff, etc. I'm betting academics will play a hand too, but I think he's concentrating more on football with this decision, and trusts that he'll be okay no matter what happens afterwards with whatever degree he earns.

Remember my philosophy about these recruits. It's better to only play for a year or two if you're getting the best coaching. So if USC or Notre Dame offer superior coaching, it's worth only starting for a year or two.

The criticisms of JaM Russell focus on his "coachables." Nobody doubts his ability to throw the ball through 2 feet of concrete, but some people question his ability to read a defense. Therefore, we can assume that the QB coaching at LSU isn't the quality you'd get from ND or USC.

very good point bluester...if only the 17 yr old recruits understood this...kids are BMOC their entire lives thru HS, and expect to start from Day 1 in college...and guys like Urban promises them they will, and next thing you know you got 5 stars riding the pine, dropping out of college before too long...thats why UF offers avg of 33 schollies per year-they know 15 per class will never make it to the cap and gown ceremony...we at ND do it the right way, i don't or believe care what any of the haters say/believe. if they need facts, just send them the grad rates of ND football players, i think we are 3rd behind Naval Acadamy and i forgot the other one...

Second the notion on this being the best Domer Talk on the web by far.

I have had similar thoughts on Crist...I think we need to start telling our recruits the same crap fUSC has been saying and that is...Hey guess what you may not play till you are a junior but you are gonna go pro as soon as your done because you will be playing for a national championship every year and have the best talent/coaching around you. If Clausen is as good as we hope he will leave as a Junior and Crist would have an open shot for 2 years of starting. I just look at what USC has done over the past few years and they have more 5* guys than they know what to do with, there is no reason we shouldnt be able to do the same.

Welcome Calves and Diego! I think it's 51-49 ND, maybe 52-48...just joking. Not much difference looking at QB depth between SC and ND, the main difference being coaching, heads up to the Irish here. Not saying LSU doesn't recruit quality characters, but I personally don't see him ending up there. If it's SC and ND, look to JC and McDonald (don't forget the relationship of the parents either, Christ and McDonald's dads are good friends and scheduled the ND visit together...they could schedule many other visits in the future, except for games on Saturdays instead of unofficials) to push ND over the top.
