IrishGuy
Merrill Hodge ripped Brady pretty hard. He basically said that comparing Brady and Jabba was an insult to sports, and that Jabba is in a league all to his own. He said Brady was not horrible, but was a dime a dozen. He said Jabba is a once ever 7-10 years type of QB. He also said that Jabba was more polished and accurate than Brady, and that Brady has problems with reads, handling pressure, throwing with accuracy, and managing the game..... He basically said that Jabba is the better QB in EVERY aspect of the game and that BQ doesn't even compare. He actually compared BQ to the BYU QB and said that was a more accurate comparison even the the BYU guy is probably better..... He also said that if the Raiders were to draft BQ #1 overall, it would set the franchise back 5 - 7 years
irish21
This guy is a clown. Quinn is a better QB than Beck. But Hodge should have watched some film on Russell. You will notice that his footwork is different on just about every pass. The Raiders are already set back 5-7 because they suck and have no offensive line. Russell could get everyone in that organization fired.
IrishGuy
I thought it was funny that Hodge said he watched "film" or both...not just the Highlights. I looked at my wife as said "film" means he watched the bowl game. I am convinced now that I am a better talent evaluator than anyone at ESPN. PursuitAce
JABBA? Jabba the hut? Maybe the early version...say Phantom Menace...definitely not the Return of the Jedi version. Big, but no mobility. Well I've watched more than "highlights" on BQ and my only knock on him is he sometimes misses wide open receivers. In the NFL you don't see many of those. It sounds funny, but you can sometimes lose focus when you have a wide open guy, because you already start thinking ahead to future plays. The attacks continue from ESPN. Again just using their content for marketing. It seems to be working. What's the ND hater to ND lover ratio in this country?...like 10 to 1? They eat that BQ sucks crap up. It's just capitalism in the sports media at work.
jfschellcrna
look the guy has had multiple concussions. head injuries are horrible. people are never right after they bang their heads really hard. i'm not being funny here, i am serious as a heart attack. this guy is a classic example of someone who's been hit too many times. anyone with a lick of common sense would listen to what he said and be able to decipher rambling from reality. the real culprit here is ESPN, who should be held culpable for putting someone like him on stage like a circus animal and letting him make a complete ass of himself for their financial gain. Ital-Irish
Hoge is the same guy who ripped Vince Young apart last year, and at the end of the year refused to back off his stance that Young wouldn't make it as an NFL QB. I wouldn't take this too seriously.
Guest irishrick
you know who cares what these people are saying, it's just to get some dialog going . we know what brady can do and were happy, , also so does the NFL. the heck with these loco. go irish

NDJoe06
he can say all he wants! I hope the horrible teams at the top believe his lies. If it looks like brady is gonna slip past 5, let a team like the bears trade up and get a bq. they will see in time that jabba isn't smart enough and more importantly work ethic and drive to be an all time great. jabba broke our secondary...so did everyone else. I remember when he sucked....its not that hard too, he still does. jabba is a body. let them say what they want everybody knows bq is great. whenteams played lsu they wondered if jabba would play well or not...while the teams that played ND were sh#$ing themselves because they knew they could stop our run and put pressure on bq...but they weren't sure that would stop him....even though they knew they could score on our D. "We can score 28 easy...we can stop their run....we can put him on his back...but is that enough?" nobody said that about jabba until the game against ND...and threw pics and could have been down at half if shark hadn't lost the ball. Guest NDisNCin2010
Ital-Irish is right-Hoge ripped Vince Young same time last year...so consider the source. In the end, all that matters to any QB in the NFL is: 1-Is their OL any good? 2-Are the recievers any good? 3-can they make all the throws required? 4-can they make the proper reads quickly at the LOS? 5-does the system leverage their strengths? i'd say BQ has 3 and 4 and only time will tell if 1, 2 and 5 pan out on the team who selects him...bottom line if he finds himself in the right situation he can and will be a decade long starter in the NFL IMHO...but if he gets in a bad situation dont think he could carry a team by himself. tchris555
yeah he's a moron, but i do agree that Beck is a good QB. He's basically a Brady without the NFL system/coaching experience, toughness, strength, and size. And if we want to pretend Jamarcus is better than Brady simply because LSU shat on ND than let's compare Brady's performance against BYU, where he could have thrown for 10 TD's if Weis wanted him to. I think he stopped at 6 though
Ray Herring
If Hodge loves Beck so much and has watched so much tape on the guy, why did he keep calling him by the wrong first name?
NDJoe06
The best thign about talking out of your but is that it will take so long for the results to happen, that you can get away with sayign anything. If the raiders chose BQ, even after 5-7 yrs there is still no way to say if that pic set the franchise back. I pray that Jabba the Russel goes first and all this anti-barady really pics up....and some team ready to win like the Da Bears laughes its way to multiple SB's in the coming years. then the same fools will be trying ot earn a quick buck talking on tv debating who is the greatest qb of all time. Is it Joe Montant, Tom Brady, or Brady Quinn. I'm jsut saying that dropping in teh draft could be the greatest thing to happen for BQ. He's no Joe Montant...and in my eyes hell never be unless he win 10 SB's...but these jerks will go from calling BQ a fraud now to puting him in the hall of fame after 5 yrs in teh league because their goal is to get paid, not to tell the facts. chirodomer
I only have one other comparison to make! Jabba = Akili Smith! BUST! He WILL have a weight problem....period! Hate to say it. He will also need a GREAT QB coach and he will need 3 years to sit before he is thrown to the wolves. Unfortunately, that will not happen. Guest iRiShMaN
Hodge is afflicted with "post Concussion Syndrome" his thinking is delayed. why is everyone saying that Russell beat Quinn in the Sugar Bowl? that is the biggest joke of all. i can't wait to see who takes jamarcus and lives with the ryan leaf of the league. Guest domerdude
My thoughts on Quinn's draft status. Quinn will not go no. 1. Nuff said. He is by far the most polished qb currently entering the NFL- but the raiders will go for the Jabba. Secondly Beck and Quinn are not in the same time zone let alone zip code. Quinn will go top five- my guess is most likely browns, they have the need and he has already expressed interest. Being a Youngstown Ohio native I couldn't be happier. The people of that area will love it. Everyone thought charlie frye was the second coming of bernie cozar... They should've waited a little longer for someone better that cozar. Now they will have it. Stalking_Eagle
I have to deal with Hoge being an Eagles fan. Trust me, anytime Hoge talks smack or picks against our teams it's for the best. I think Hoge was undefeated last year by picking against the Eagles the birds won every freaking game till they picked them in the playoffs. Hoge your NFL career blew, I even hated you in Tecmo Bowl.
