dangeruss
What to look for on defense: As good as last year’s defense was, this one will be even better. With nine starters returning, this is a veteran group that should keep almost everyone under 20 points. Few coaches in the country are as talented as Gailey at establishing a defensive tempo. GT forces plenty of turnovers and can get to the quarterback, and should be a terror in opposing backfields all season long. this will be the reason why ND will probbly lose to GT. last season ND could only score 14 points with all the vetran players they had on offense. now they'll have a new QB, new OL and new WRs. i just don't know how ND will be able to score more then 17 points against this fast blitz happy defense. on the bright side even though NDs offense is inexperienced they are probbly more talented and faster then they were in '06. http://cfn.scout.com/2/632015.html
ND81
Don't know why but I just feel confident that ND can pull this one out. You bring up a very good point in regards to GT's defense, but this will not be the same Irish team lining up against them. Now that can be good or bad. Good in that GT will not have any film showing the new players in meaningful game experience, bad in that the new players will not have any meaningful game experience. GT has two years of Weis playcalling to lookout, but I'm sure that given the personnel that Weis has he is devising up new ways to improve the offense. Having Allen come out of the backfield more, focusing more on the power run game with Hughes and Aldridge, etc. So there is an element of surprise that Weis can come at GT with. The ND defense is going through a transition but so to is the GT offense. Anyone under center not named Reggie Ball will be an upgrade, but without Johnson who will the new qb focus on. Hopefully, Corwin Brown can infuse life and energy into the defense. So in my eyes both teams are going through transitions, given that the game is at home, and ND probably has the better talent on the field (though it may not be developed yet), I have to say that ND will open the season 1-0. domeanddomer
Again, it will come down to the play at the QB position. How does the young, jittery, nervous QB handle the constant blitzing? I'm affraid the answer to that question will determine not only if we win against GT, but it will be the difference bewteen starting 2-1 possibly 3-0, or 0-3. Nervous yet? I threw up twice already. GTs defense could give ND all sorts of fits, UM will kill ND and PSU will be a strong road challenge.
Scotty88
With that 0-3 business I'm getting the feeling you forgot your bday....no way does ND start 0-3, cmon Russ!
Guest gallup21
im getting the feeling i got before ND's 88 season. Then again, i wasnt alive in 88 but i still feel we can go undefeated. Its not being really frickin optimistic, i actually feel we can pull this off...like Barry said, the teams going to surprise a lot of people
domeanddomer
0-3 might not be popular here of course...but it certainly is possible. If the GT game turns out to be a disaster...then watch out. Mark May would have a field day with that. I bet you that would be like porn to him.

Guest irishrick
sorry Russ you must be thinking about something else, Tech has two QB that haven't played very much one is a junior transfer from auburn and still is playing the auburn plays , you will see a very different irish team this year, more people out of the backfield, some with power and some with speed and a now and then pass from Jones or Frazer, OR YOU just might see the golden boy throw those short passes over the middle ,he has some experience at that, you just might see the same type of qb that Florida used , don't laugh charlie is on a roll you can see it in his actions , Russ last year i would agree with you however this year, is a different story , tech would just love to beat the irish in south bend, thats bigger than the thanksgiving battle with thoes sorry bulldogs, as my brother in law used to say . Russ we still love yah but lets get behind the irish . ha ha
AnnArborsASlut
This same GT Defense just gave up 38 points in its bowl game against a largely one dimensional team in WVU. This proves that you can put a number up on them. However, look out for their new QB. Reggie Ball was not good, but after watching the new QB in the bowl game and remembering hearing good things about him in their spring game last year, we could have our hands full if the D is not up to snuff yet. Guest SirJohn
Russ I gotta be careful here as I am a Mod, may be pulled down by other mods and the boss. as I understand it the anomosity between Lou and Mark Mays go back into an incident in the ESPN restrooms. There's a couple of versions of this urinal side by side incident. Short and long versions. Little Lou's version seems longer. I can't swear by this but if you want to spread it around the Internet I can't stop you. I'm simply worried my own mods and my boss will pull this down. MikejND
We also have to remember that we are playing at home, so we will have our fans rooting for us, not against us. The atmosphere will be totally different. I think our players were nervous in the GT game, this year, I think they'll be pumped.
Guest scooper
Last year's offense was predicated on finesse. GT's defense ate that up. Sometimes, the best way to beat an attacking defense built on speed and deception is to keep it simple and ram it down their throats. Nobody can argue that this offense will be better than last year's as a whole, but I don't think it's far fetched to say they will be better equipped to establish the power running game. Georgia Tech's offense will suck balls. 1-2 may be a possibility, but that will start with a 1-0.
Guest SirJohn
hey Mike. Nice yes we are at home. i forget the guys name but our ND guy said something akin to nothing like going to GT and having 50,000 people more or less wanting to rip you head off. It's a two edged sword at times, I think like you we have the discipline to win where they might let the cookie crumble.
irish21
Mark May probably wanted to go to ND, but had to settle for Pitt instead.

NDJoe06
yes 0-3 is possible, but I don't even consider that. last yr GT was put in the prime tome against the No. 2 team in the nation, a team that everyone thought would be just as explosive on O as the previos yr. It will be very difficult for GT to not to underestimate the irish. they see new qb, new rb, o line, wr's, and new d-scheme. wait till gameday...everybody will be picking GT...'05 & '02 nobody thought we'd be winning games. Its on like donkey kong. it'll be tough but if our D shows up the irish will take care of buisness.
IrishGuy
Mark May hates ND because of 1980. He believes that ND caused his team to finish 2nd in the polls that year....had ND beaten Georgia, Pitt would have won a national title.
