chirodomer
I have devoured the Big 3 NFL pre-draft rags and the consensus is that Brady is the QB that is the most ready BUT yadadadada! The predicition is that he goes anywhere from the 3rd or 4th pick in the first round to the 3rd round. D-Walk is projected in round 6. Rags said that he should have stayed in school. I have to disagree. I beileve that Darius was in a similar situation to Antonio Pittman from OSU. He had freshman backs biting at his heels. Guest mpstunner11
I have heard that Walker is likely to be a 4th round pick. The running backs besides Lynch and Peterson aren't too deep and there are no real sleeper picks. And Quinn is going to be a top 5 pick, regardless of what any prediction guy thinks. Cleveland's interest in a qb leaves many teams that need a qb coveting the Detroit pick. Either Cleveland trades up one spot, or a team like Minnesota trades up. The Texans realized they wouldn't get Quinn so they got Schaub.
Guest iRiShMaN
Darius was in a Catch-22. If he stayed, his stock would go down. if he leaves, he is a late round choice. the way the team was shaping up with all the freshman, sophs and new recruits Darius had no choice. Thomas was coming to the O side either way, so leaving was smart I think someone will take a flyer on him in the late 3rd or early 4th. he is a very good 3rd down guy with great hands. he can handle punishment and carry the load. The earliest he is picked is the 4th, no way he goes in the 3rd round. I think its most likely he goes in the 5th. There are a couple sleeper picks at running back. Chris Henry out of Arizona who is 6'0" 227, who wasn't even invited to the NFL scouting combine mind you, turned out one of the best performances at the combine (his agent got him in). I think he is one of the bigger sleeper picks in the entire draft. ESPN still has him as a 30 ranking and the 26th best running back prospect (for those interested Darius Walker is listed as the 8th best RB prospect, though personally I think he should be the 9th best prospect Lorenzo Booker should be ahead of him). Henry turned in one of the best combines out of all the backs running a 4.14 20 yard shuttle (3rd), 11.51 60 yard shuttle (2nd), 6.96 in the 3 cone (4th), 36 inch vertical (8th), 10'7" broad jump (1st), and ran a 4.4 40 (Tied-1st). I think the most impressive thing is he did that well in all of those drills as a big back, a couple of big macs shy of 230. I think Kolby Smith could end up surprising some people as well from Louisville.

ny
Combine numbers mean squat, look at jerry rice, curtis martin, tom brady, emmit smit, anquan boldin and even T.O. were not the fastest or biggest at the combine but the first 4 are hall of famers, the last two no CB can cover one on one. It's that game tape that matters. any one can look good in a pair of shorts put on that tape. DW came through no matter what people say. I'm not saying he's a first rounder but curtis martin or emmit didn't have break away speed they had (in emmit's case more so then curtis) great offensive lines. DW didn't have that luxury. I never stated DW was a bad back. I never stated DW didn't make plays and help the Irish a lot. I was speaking as an unbiased football fan. My post was primarly talking about potential sleeper picks, which I feel Chris Henry will be. I agree and disagree with some of your statements. I don't think combine numbers mean squat, but they aren't everything. DW does a lot of the little things that are under-rated, but I still don't see him going on Day 1. Also T.O. (6'3" 225) and Boldin (6'1" 225) are pretty big WR's, Boldin isn't tall, but for his weight he is pretty fast.
Guest mpstunner11
Yeah - I forgot about Chris Henry. He had an amazing combine. I do think, though, that more NFL teams are transitioning to a running back by committee style. There are only a few LTs or LJs or Shaun Alexanders. That is why I think DW is going to be more indemand this year than 3 years ago.
jfschellcrna
in the right type of offense, walker could be downright dangerous. ala brian westbrook. i'm not saying he is as quick or elusive, but he is very strong and has excellent blocking skills. those things accompanied with a nice set of soft hands and an ability to make yardage after the catch may seem appealing to more than a few teams.... Guest irishrick
hey NY, great post , welcome aboard, i like what you say . keep it up i think we fans pit to much on these polls and stat sheets. it the game tape that is most convincing . go irish

He's a great receiver but that is slow no matter what size he is
GoIrish24
What I love about Anquan is his blocking abilities and all that, he's such a physical receiver.
Batch
I am going to go out on a limb and predict D walker goes to the Colts...especially since Rhodes was allowed to go west. Peyton is gonna love D walker. This is just fun speculation. -Batch
chirodomer
I will go out on a limb and say D-Walk to the Broncos. Shanahan is the best developer of running backs in the NFL and with the zone blocking scheme, Darius would do very well. D-Walk was rated the best receiver which would make sense for an Indy lean. Boldin ran a 4.72. He's a great receiver but that is slow no matter what size he is Umm...our QB ran a fraction slower than that. Sorry, but that is an embarrassing 40 time at a position where the 40 makes a difference. As far as DW goes... Travis Thomas was not a threat to him. I like the guy, but he would have finished his career as a backup RB. Darius' competition was coming from Aldridge, and Allen. Darius simply would not have been a sole back this year. Featured back sure, but nowhere close to the number of reps he's had in the past two years. And THAT is what would hurt his NFL stock in the next draft. Less exposure and decreased productivity behind a young offensive line.

Guest JerseyDomer
BQ goes #2 I say. Darius goes 2nd or 3rd round. rumors were a couple of teams were tellin Darius they would take him with their 2nd pick. Giants and Denver mentioned
NDJoe06
i don't know how early DW will go, but as a Chiefs fan I have had to wave my fist in the air year after year as Denver runs all over us with almost a different back each year. DW doesn't have that extra gear, but the zone blocking system appears to make any back look great.
GoIrish24
Speaking of blocking, check out the first play of this highlight from the 2005 Tennessee game. Watch Darius' block on the Vol linebacker.
