dangeruss
according to scouts anthony mcdonald has high interest in ND, and looking at this article from rivals it gives me the impression that he's a very strong ND lean. i would love to see ND land this guy, does anyone know more. http://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=649495
Scotty88
He and Crist will visit together in April, an extended visit w/ their families I believe. Sounds like McDonald could wrap it up then, but will probably receive some offers between now and then.
TheRizz
Is McDonald going to be an elite recruit? 5*? It sure does seem like a lot of our offered prospects like ND a lot.
IrishGuy
I am curious how a USC offer would impact his decision.... Seeing his and Crist's interest level in ND so high is very promising though. I would really like to see us land both guys.
dangeruss
Is McDonald going to be an elite recruit? 5*? right now he's on rivals top 250 watch list and could be a top 100 recruite, not sure if he'll be a 5-star but he'll be a sure 4-star. irishdread
I am curious how a USC offer would impact his decision.... i dont think it would impact his decision at all. His dad is a USC alum, and he has already jumped ship and started loving ND. When it comes down to these parents wanting the best for the kids in academics, and a family like surrounding, its just hard to beat out ND. Guest fighton2007
McDonald won't be a 5-star, but he should be on the cusp of many recruiting Top 100 rankkings. He's got great instincts and good speed, but Arthur Brown, Nigel Bradham, Filer and Shayne Hale are on a different level. The 1st 2 will be 5-stars and the latter 2 have shots at 5-stars. ND has solid shots at Crist and McDonald, but if SC were to offer both of them, things would change significantly. As of now, it seems unlikely that Crist gets a USC offer, and McDonald is 50/50. Their teammate Wes Horton just committed to USC which doesn't look good for ND b/c Horton was a UCLA legacy.
Rockne3d
I think McDonald is all but wrapped up. I don't think a USC offer will effect it one bit. His father seems all about ND right now, pretty amazing since he played football for USC. I think this is completed on his April visit. He will be an awesome fit. I am very excited to land him. Scotty88
Their teammate Wes Horton just committed to USC which doesn't look good for ND b/c Horton was a UCLA legacy. Could you explain that fighton? Why is it bad for ND if he was a UCLA legacy? Not sure how you could say an SC offer would change ND's chances on these guys....they were talking Irish when they had offers from neither. SC's recruiting prowess might be catching up w/ them....McDonald said an important factor would be PT, the depth is certainly less at ND than SC. Catholic kids from ND HS might negate that fine Catholic school being in SoCal.

Also where have people been getting the info that McDonald's dad is really high on ND. I have heard it frequently but have never seen it. Guest fighton2007
Sorry I wasn't clear... While most people would've expected Horton to go to UCLA, his committing to USC reflects the good relationship that USC has w/ ND HS (USC and NDHS players have been a good match in the past) and the "draw" that SC has on local kids. This doesn't "hurt" ND, but it may give an indication as to how hard it will be for ND to pull the 2 from USC's backyard. As for why an offer would change things - think about it. If you applied to two colleges (A and B), and got in school A, you would talk that school up because there's a good chance you would go there, not having heard back from school B. There's a good chance Crist doesn't get an offer (SC probably wont offer any QBs in 2008 if Mustain transfers in) and McDonald may be the 4th or 5th LB on USC's wish list. I do know that USC's LB depth chart will look a lot better after this year b/c Keith Rivers graduates, and at least 1 of SC's 2 stud jr LBs will leave early. Again, I don't have any friends/sources who are close to the ND HS program, so I am somewhat speculating. But, his family has been seen at SC games and most high school recruits in SoCal now have seen USC win national championships during their most impressionable years. For those ND fans who "expect" McDonald to commit - I'd suggest changing that expectation just a bit.
Guest shark83
This could be just like Brian Smith, except with ND on the losing end of this battle. Supposedly he's going to need a good camp @ USC to come away with an offer. McDonald could get a USC offer late in the game and spurn ND. Definitely wouldn't get your hopes up with McDonald until the LOI is signed.
jfschellcrna
nice opinion fighton. arrogant as usual, but nice.........
Guest fighton2007
haha.. most SC fans are arrogant when it comes to recruiting, given the success that Pete Carroll has had in the past 4-5 years... I like to think that I'm one of the more "conservative" guys when it comes to USC recruiting
Ricochet
Is McDonald going to be an elite recruit? 5*? It sure does seem like a lot of our offered prospects like ND a lot.No, he's very, very good but not at the elite level, I'm sure he will be a solid 4*. Crist on the other hand is a 4* prospect with 5* talent.
irishziggy
i agree with fighton's speculation. i wouldnt get our expectation's up and if he does commit, it'd be great, but keep it in the back of your mind that his dad is was a trojan. The other thing is if he commits before the summer, does he go to the ND camp instead of USC???
Guest seniorle
Should he commit at the spring game, I would like to hope he stops all contact with USC and stays loyal to ND. Granted he's right in USC's backyard so I'm sure he could do things discreetly but I'm sure he's a good kid and that won't be a problem. Guest NDEagles379
When he comes in April, if he loves it at ND and wants to commit, I guarantee Charlie will say this: Will a USC offer change your mind? And he'll explain what it means to commit to us now, no wavering. And if McDonald is still sure, then he will commit and keep his word. He seems to have a good family upbringing and would keep his word. But if he has doubts, if an SC would force him to reconsider, then Charlie won't let him commit. I think he'll be Irish. Not sure about Crist, but we have a good shot.
Scotty88
haha.. most SC fans are arrogant when it comes to recruiting, given the success that Pete Carroll has had in the past 4-5 years... I like to think that I'm one of the more "conservative" guys when it comes to USC recruiting Fighton, you are a pleasure to converse w/ compared to some of the guys around the office, I've considered you a welcomed member of DD just like TeamU and Sunshine (who I think comes off as arrogant w/ his "Best blah blah is played at blah blah" tag) It's good to get different perspectives as long as they aren't flammatory, which they haven't been. I still feel really good about the chances McDonald plays in the same uni in college. ND has strong ties to SoCal, obviously not as strong as SC, but there is a strong presence. I really think if McDonald is waiting for another offer, SC or not, he wouldn't be putting as much into his visit next month. He and Crist bring in the fam on their own dollar, both dads being good friends, hammering out the details. Just my opinion but it seems that there is alot riding on the visit. Guest JerseyDomer
Not sure if it was posted or not, but McDonald's grandparents are supposedly joining the family on the trip to The Golden Dome for the Blue and Gold game. Don't know bout the rest of you, but a strong Irish Catholic family touring the ND campus WILL give you " the chills ", I woulnd't be surprised if the McDonald's got that feeling too.
