irishziggy
the lions would be dumb if those chose stanton over quinn. they could still get stanton in the 2nd rd if not the 3rd. their management is dumb, but they cant be that dumb. Guest imported_OntarioIrish
they cant be that dumb. Hey, don't sell the Lions' management short - I believe they not only can be, but probably are that dumb - if not dumber!

irishziggy
the only reason they do it is b/c they know how many Irish fans there are, and they know they can make us mad. i know it's all BS. Quinn will not be the first overall pick, big deal! He loses money now, but he'll get it when he signs his contract extension in 2 to 3 years after being a starter for at least 2 years. He'll go to a better team with a better chance to win. I think Dolphins releasing Joey Harrington all but seals the deal, if he's there at #9, he's a dolphin. Then they can get rid of Culpepper next year and Quinn can lead that offense. Brady Quinn at QB Ronnie Brown at RB Chris Chamber and Marty Booker at WR Randy McMichael at TE and the Dolphins have a good defense. I wouldnt mind being a rookie QB for that team. I just hope he doesnt go to a team with a situation like Aaron Rodgers, just waiting to take the throne from Favre. Id like to see Quinn start in his 2nd year like Kitna to Palmer for the Bengals. Guest imported_OntarioIrish
Miami wouldn't be a bad situation for him; Houston at # 8 is pretty much done with David Carr, I believe, so there's another possibility - anywhere but the Lions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he drops further than Miami at # 9, guaranteed there's going to be some teams kicking themselves down the road.

ny
I think the draft is just like recruiting, except you can't initially pick where you want to go in the draft. I mean a NFL team that picks 9th knows that a team that's in the top 5 needs a lot of things like QB, RB, WR etc. Know we know rb and wr can get drafted in later rounds so can QB but a "franchise" QB. Well lets just say team X kind of bad press the QB to make a team in the top 5 believe in the false hype pass on the player so the player drops and just like that a team with the 9th pick has their guy. This is done also to make one team that picks 3rd make a team that picks 7th think that they are going to pick up a player that the team that pick 7th wants. So 7th trades with 3 and 3 get 7's second and third. So all in all Football at any level is a cut throat biz.

Guest irishron
This is all gamesmanship and bluffing. As soon as I read about Stanton's "intangibles" then I knew this was all smoke and mirrors. And the mention of the comeback last season against MSU surely tips this guys hand as a Spartan hack. Stanton'll be lucky to ever take a Sunday snap. And hey, I like the kid. He's just not on the same level as Quinn.

Guest irishron
What makes Brady Quinn so good? or better than stanton?? In 2006 while running NFL spread offenses: BQ completed 289 passes for 3426 yards and 37 TDs improving over '05 (95 career TDs) DS completed 164 passes for 1807 yards and 12 TDs much worse than '05 (42 career TDs) Then there is experience: BQ started 45 games and Coach Weis was his mentor/teacher DS started 27 games with John L Dipshet BQ led the Irish to a BCS birth DS led the Spartans to a 1 and 7 conference embarrassment They both are big kids BQ is 6'4 227lbs and ripped DS is a bit shorter but he is much weaker--he also has a reconstructed knee BQ compares to Donovan McNabb when drafted in completions, TDs, and yards per attempt DS compares statistically to Aaron Rodgers BQ has the potential to sell tickets--LOTS OF THEM DS wouldn't be recognized at the local mall Personally, I think Drew Stanton was the best thing MSU had going last season. But that isn't saying much. He'll have a career in the NFL taking reps in practice as a stand in for QBs like Brady Quinn. Just my opinion you understand. Guest SirJohn
Irishron nice. Gotta ask you tho who is the avitar since it's an oldieish I favor (Bat Masterson) Seem to have seen it somewhere but faded brain cells.
Guest iRiShMaN
"As we've previously heard, there also are questions about Quinn's ability to perform on a big stage, and some concerns about whether he wants to be a Hollywood type or whether he is committed to being the best football player he can be. ... So don't be surprised if Stanton gets drafted after JaMarcus Russell of LSU, and prior to Quinn." And wouldn't that be sweet revenge for the way Quinn's Irish rallied late to beat Stanton's Spartans, 40-37, last September? i hope this rumor turns true. the irish rallied because of one reason. Stanton Sucks. these rumors are fueled by idiots who are as bored as we are right now. nothing going on, so start a rumor.

Guest kramer116
what a hack this guy is! When I heard him talk about Quinn wanting to be the hollywoood type and not wanting it, I laughed. this huy has clearly never investigated Quinn. HE is also working so hard that he is going on the cover of mens fitness! What an asshole!
NDJoe06
I'm tired of caring about what these stupid teams think. I hope brady slips to the end of the first round and go to the bears. if they had a qb who could check down his reads then they could win multiple super bowls. again, not gonna happen, but there is so much talk of him sliding. If brady slides to the dolphins that would be a good place for him.
Guest WillDomer
Okay, my bias - I'm a Domer and think Brady 'saved' us many times in the 19 wins over the past two years - so, I am firmly in his "camp" and don't like it when he's knocked. However, even an unbiased person has to take issue with this quote from the article: As we've previously heard, there also are questions about Quinn's ability to perform on a big stage, and some concerns about whether he wants to be a Hollywood type or whether he is committed to being the best football player he can be. I recall reading (perhaps from a link on a post somewhere on this great blog) that Brady was actually working out so hard he was even doing drills for his EYES to increase his ability to see and read action and defenses more quickly in addition to his incredible workout/nutrition regimen. How many players can claim to actually workout thier EYES? Not many, I would guess and so, I say, how can one question "whether he is committed to being the best football player he can be" . . . the author of that article is just another hater IMHO
