dangeruss
QB (A+) - Jimmy Clausen....enough said. RB (A+) - ND got what they wanted a big physical RB in Hughes and the gamebreaking speedster in Allen. WR (B) - ND wanted to bring in three WRs, they did bring in two good ones in Kamara and Tate (losing out on Benn and Little keeps it from being a solid "A"). TE (A+) - ND wanted to bring in one TE and landed the #1 TE in the country....again. OL (B) - Not the star studed class it might have been but ND landed four more OL giving ND good depth (losing out on MSG, Miller, Wilson, Oglelsby keep it from being a solid A). DE (D) - Kerry Neal is the only reason i didn't give the DEs an "F". A fantastic athlete that could play in a hurry but if ND moves to a 3-4 Neal maybe better suited at OLB. DT (C-) - In a 3-4 you dont need a lot of DTs but only landing one player at a position that ND needed to fill up bad doesn't help. LB (B+) - Even though ND lost out big on Donald, Wilson and Edwards they did do a nice job at LB. Smith, Paskorz, Nagel and possibly Neal should fit into the 3-4 nicely (specially Smith and Neal). CB (A-) - It would've been nice to land two talented CBs but after landing Walls and McNeil last year ND could get away with bringing in one CB. Gary Gray is a good looking CB but will have to add size and strength if he wants to play in '07. S (A-) - ND did a good job here in bringing in Harrison Smith a great athlete that is a natural at playing safety. overall ND did a nice job. i feel they hit homeruns at QB, RB, TE, CB and S. ND wanted to bring in ten players to fill the front seven (3-DEs, 3-DTs and 4-LBs) but was only able to land five, this wont be good for depth. i think ND did well at WR but losing out on Benn and Little only leave me feeling what could have been instead of realizing that Kamara and Tate are two very fine and capable WRs. i will say that CW needs to do a better job down the stretch and learn to close the deal. PlayLikeAChampion
there is only one analysis that counts and thats CW
Guest NDLawJAG
Technically, it is the ND president, AD and Board of Directors opinions that really count.

da coach
I hope you are grading the papers for the football team, because how you can give those grades out is beyond me...This is Notre Dame, not Fresno State....We should be able to fill our scholarship count today...We don't bring in JUCO or Prep School kids, so its not like we have any fluff or confusion on who we should be recruiting... I guess the only thing we can hope for is a few transfers...which we generally refuse to take in So, blah blah blah

Guest irish_at_birth
i don't have any idea what the da coach is talking about. But i am pretty dissappointed in this years class. Not the kids we have, i am happy with them, but if you think about it, if we didn't pull walker and smith out of nowhere we would be looking at 16 recruits. I know Charlie doesn't like to offer a ton of prospects but we keep losing the one's we do offer. i hear well we are not on the level of usc or we are headed in the right direction, well if we aren't on that level, that why in the hell are we recruiting like we are. Dailey and colasanti should be irish right now.
ndblue
Not sure if I follow you Coach. First, I went to Fresno State so I don't think it is fair to compare the two schools. Fresno State recruits hard for the left over scraps in California and the West and the PAC 10 schools. They have good coaching and develop the players they get. I have followed ND for years, since I lived there when I was a kid and had relatives graduated from ND. I guess I am a subway alumni, but closer maybe than most. Hence, I follow ND and this board. ND is doing a better job of getting players than Ty. I agree with DangerRuss grading. I do think we need to emphasis defensive in recruiting next year, close better with recruits and try not to always hit home runs on every single top 5 star. What I believe will send the future top 5 stars to ND is good coaching which develops the defensive players. Coach Weis is got the offensive side taken care of. I hope CB will take of the defensive side of the ball next year. Results bring in good recruits.
IrishGuy
You guys have to forgive da coach. He has been drinking since 6am. He will be back to his normal positive self tomorrow...
SpecialFNK
i think something i need to remind myself aswell as others when it comes to ranking players is even those that rate recruiting(Rivals/Scout/ESPN) are all different. Weis himself might also have different ratings for the players he has brought in. maybe we need to have more trust in Weis and the coaching staff that they can transform these players into something special. its not just all about the level of talent(star value), but what the coaches do with that talent. Guest NDLawJAG
Everyone keeps talking about the LB recruiting and how we did not get Dailey and Colasanti (I'm not sure they were sure things). I remember before the season most of the people on this board were suprised when CW said he wanted 4 LBs... We ended up with 3 of our top 6 LBs (We may have lost Smith, Tez and Donald). That is not all that bad. It was DL that really hurt us... I don't see anyone pointing to any quality DL player, except perhaps Nick Woods, that had interest in us that we did not pursue. NDFan3
Live and learn. This is only CWs second full class, and judging by the presser it sounds like he's learned a lot. He's changing up the way he goes about recruiting, and he's only going to get better at it. Cheers to the 08 class boys!!!
IrishCrazy
I am as excited about Neal and Smith at linebacker as anyone but do not overlook Paskorz and I think especially Nagel. They both had injury issues Senior season and b/c they committed so early (proves they're smart ) they didn't get a lot of ongoing publicity. Nagel will be an amazing piece of the puzzle in a 3-4, he is a Zach Thomas repeat. By the way at 6'1 220 & 4.5/40, he is benching 365,putting on weight and "wants to work on his speed" Ouch!! Guest mksND
I couldn’t agree more NDfan3. After I watched the press conference I couldn’t help but notice how fed up Charlie seems to be with the way recruiting is conducted (can you blame him?!). I think Charlie has realized that the game of ‘big time’ college football recruiting leaves no room for the nice guy. This year was an eye opening experience for him and will prompt changes in the way he does things in the future. Look out for next year’s class!
