He looks good... Hopefully we can bring this guy in!

So far this year I think Urbie's stolen 8 players from other schools in this class. If we take 1, I don't think we're quite on his level. Not to mention, if other schools are going to do it to us, we've got to do the same things in order to compete.

Smith is a hard hitter and would be a good player to get this late in the game. Idk how interested he will be though, we didn't show him any love, even though he was begging for an ND offer either in the year. He would be a solid ILB in the 3-4.

Give credit to Zook and urban jeese they are good. Guard your hip pocket wallet

Rationalization. Either stay on the moral high horse or get off...it can't be ok for Charlie and not for Urban Meyer, and the "everybody else is doing it" defense doesn't cut it either.

This situation is different, he was lower on our board and was not offered while we were in contention for the likes of edwards and donald. His dad played here and he is a diehard fan- coul dnot even bare to make it down to nawlins for the sugar bowl this year - what his dad said down there - because he was so upset about not getting the offer.

I have to think that we will be abe to get him!

Fellas, I am not connected as others, but I am hearing good things about this. My guess is that he will be Irish. I said "guess" though.

Anyway, this all bugs me. I do not like stealing other team's commits. I do not like them stolen from us. Tough situation.

No kid has signed anything, so in my mind it isn't stealing.

The recruiting world is changing and Weis and his staff need to learn that game and get down into the trenches also. Remember when, in your words, we "stole" Gray? Was that differenet? No, its the way of the recruiting world and Weis and the boys know that. Its going to be the norm now.

Β

I would like to think that Weis and his staff just don't blindly send an offer out to just any kid that is committed. I am sure they ask a kid that if they are committed is it ok they still keep in contact with them and/or hey if we sent you an offer, would you seriously think about it, or something along those lines.

As long as ND isn't doing anything unethical, every kid is fair game till Letter Of Intent day. Recruiting world is alot different now, and to survive and get the best, Weis is learning that, especially after JT's ordeal. Its going to happen to ND again, and I'll be just as pissed as I was this last time, but I think we all better get use to it.

As long as Weis doesn't make a habit of it, like Meyer is. That is too much, 8 kids? That is taking it too far, but one, two or three is not too bad. Unless we take 8 committs from Florida, that I can live with.

There is something about UM.... He loses more kids that have verballed than anyother school and then he goes out and steals them elsewhere. Some of these kids should ask, what did all these kids that verballed and left figure out about UM that I don't know??

It seems to me that Brian Smith would have the perfect excuse. Minter never pushed his name to Weis (Idon't know this to be true, but some posters on IE believe Minter was the lead on this kid). Minter was, of course, counting on the big guns that never materialized. Now, the kid can say that the new DC offered, and this changes everything. I believe that is fair to say without looking like a back-stabber. If the DC changes and a brand new offer comes in, and you play defense . . . well, that changes everything. Like it or not, Trattou has this same excuse which is why I would like to let his topic die and we all move on to the 2008 class (right after we get Brian Smith  ).

It's kind of a dated quote (12/10) and this is recruiting and strange this happens but his quote on his Rivals profile says something to the effect of after having visiting Iowa City, no more visits will be necessary for Smith.

Take it for its worth

Yeah, I saw that quote, but like you, realized he said it before the ND offer. It just needs to be pitched to him that it was Minter decision not to pursue him, and not a Weis decision. I would assume that Weis would depend on his DC to bring him the names and tapes of kids that they want, but I don't know that for a fact. Either way, if ND can remove the sting of not having offered this kid earlier, then we have a real shot, especially because of his dad. I think his dad is the key. If his dad was offended that his alma mater didn't offer his kid, then we're in trouble. If Smith realizes that the lack of an offer wasn't personal, and Minter is now gone, then we have a real shot. It's a difficult call. Too many emotional variables involved.

Everything I remember of this kid screams ND. He was begging for a ND offer even more than Golden Tate

I have no problem taking this guy from Iowa but the lateness of the whole thing is something we should avoid. I have no problem with Urban Meyer also, its become pretty clear that recruits are fair game untill signing day and Trattou's heart was obviously not in it for a 3-4 fight.

Brian is getting an in home visit and a trip to South Bend next week. I feel we will have his commit within 2 weeks. He has always wanted to be Irish. Go Irish!!!!

I did some research on Smith and found out that he originally wavered on his commitment to Iowa with KSU. I am probably looking into it too much but if he was flirting with KSU after his commitment to Iowa, this lead me to believe he was probably never 100% sold. If ND was truly what he wanted I think we are in excellent position.

Regarding his father's monogram bio, to say that he is active is an understatement!
