Was giving Minter the axe worth losing Trattou...?

In the short run possibly not...Trattou could've very possibly played next season.

In the long run....HELL YES!!!!

This means that CB must've had some pretty mind blowing ideas for our defense if Trattou left. He didn't like to 3-4, c'mon kid you still need DEs. Of course it's FL and they just won the NC, hey if I weren't a die hard ND fan I'd be interested too. Can't fault him for changing his decision, however I am very pissed about the the timing of his change, would've loved for this to happen early.

Can anyone say Jason Peters!!! Sell this kid CB, send the damn house Charlie. He's exactly what we need, and he's got even better size than Trattou.

So long no neck!!! Look forward to seeing you are your back when ND and FL eventually play one another.

Lets sell Everson (I committed to a tarnished program) Griffen on our new defense? He is in fact a 'beast' in his own right?

..

ND Fan - this is what I had a problem with the whole time. I don't think it was worth it because I think they could have played the timing right and done both. There are two months between NSD and spring ball and they could have made the switch then.

The only thing I wonder is (1) if CW thought he had to make a move now to lock in CB before Cb got other offers or (2) he felt there were recruits out there CB could sway.

I'll give CB the assist for Hughes, but I wouldn't trade Hughes for JT at this point.

has there been any type of rumours on recruits from other schools that Brown has been going after?

losing Trattou might not be that bad if Brown can sway soomeone else from somewhere else.

Of course it was worth it. We gave up nearly 1200 yards of offense in our last two bowl games and it was time to announce that ND was making a change and is taking its defense seriously. If we lose out on some recruit because he doesn't feel he'll fit in then fine. He's talented but I'll trade you a successful system for a couple of 4* recruits in the year of transition.

Look, if things are as they appear the kid didn't like the way the new look defense was shaping up which presumably is the 3-4. We might as well go after guys that are going to want to be here to play this attacking style defense. I wonder if CB gave him the option of playing OLB ? 6'4 230 and a 4.8 or something like that could make for a mean OLB

at any rate this is disappointing for sure but I think it was more important for CW to make a statement here that not only is 9-3 not good enough, but neither is 10-3 and making #1 draft picks and heisman trophy candidates out of opposing quarterbacks

Agreed. I'm happy Minter is gone, but amazed anyone (JT) could possibly see a negative in that!

The change might be worth it if CB can live up to his endorsements (hopefully he can) but the timing was not at this point.

CB waffled during his presser about the 3-4 and seemed to indicate we might run both. And in the process we lost a very good player - one who we were so stoked about during the AAA game practices that he was "unblockable".

Now things can change, but there is a lot of speculation out there now and not a lot of smoke around other defensive studs looking back at us and NSD is approaching.

with Minter, ND had Trattou

now without Minter, ND lost Trattou

with Minter, the ND defence hasnt been producing. even if Trattou came in with Minter still here the ND defence could have still not been as good as expected?

now without Minter, new DC Brown can make the current ND players along with the new recuits better ..so the entire defence(recruits and current players) is improved, right?

Brown should be able to get more than what Minter could have gotten from the entire defence(recruits and current players)

Hey it sucks but Trattou is one player!!!

Sure FIRING MINTER may have cost us Trattou, but HAVING MINTER probably cost us multiple defensive guys (Martin, Edwards).

Whatever.

Would you rather have one great player in a bad scheme, or a great scheme without one great player i.e. New England? That should answer your question.

(Not to say we dont have any great players coming in on defense)

Guys when Corwin wraps up Filer this summer with his Chicago influence just think of it as payback for this night when his system cost us a good DE.

Neal is a stud, and Ryan played a little as a freshman. Nuss and Nwanko as well as Williams will rotate into the DT spot, and LB will be interesting. But our secondary in 2 years will be among the best in the country, so at least we have that!!!

One of the main reasons he switched was because of how the defense played this year. To use his words, "Florida's defense was aggresive and hungry" translation, Minter's scheme lost Trattou for ND!

Not sure that Minter cost us Martin... Rumors swirled before the AAA game that both Donald and Martin were silent, then changed because of the coaching change.

I think it is really all of us obsessive ND fans faults... If we had not been so riled up and after them to get rid of Minter, they probably would have waited until after NSD to can him. I remember that when CB was hired everyone thought players would flock to him... The fact is he is an unknown for these kids.

I just hope we can hold on to everyone else.

trattoo or not we will be in a better position we may still play the 3- 4 or the4=3 CB was telling the truth , it depends on which team we play, that's a Fair statement by cb we will be pk this year, one man isn't the team, if the guy wants warm weather then go to school with problems. we will make it at Notre dame . go irish.
