In the wake of Notre Dame running back Darius Walker's decision to declare for the NFL draft rather than return in 2007, Hubbard's Robert Hughes is having second thoughts about his recruiting.
Hughes, who was scheduled to announce his college choice last Saturday during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, said he felt a lot of pressure and couldn't make up his mind between Notre Dame and Illinois, though it was said at the time he was leaning toward Illinois.
On Thursday, however, Hughes said he was 50/50 between the schools and would announce his decision Jan. 23 at Hubbard. He has said one of his prime considerations in choosing a school is an opportunity to play as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame landed a commitment from 6-6, 350-pound offensive lineman Chris Little of Jeffersonville, Ga., a top-100 prospect who had committed to Florida State during the U.S. Army game.
''Notre Dame was Chris' No. 1 school the whole time,'' said Dexter Copeland, Little's high school coach. ''There just was some miscommunication. He thought his mother wanted him to stay close to home, but his mother liked Notre Dame. This is not a slap in the face to Florida State.''
