Well that doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

i really hope ND can land smith, in a few years he could be a real difference maker on defense.

Agreed. He will really get a chance to show what he can do right away. He might not start his freshman year, but I could see him getting a ton of time in 09 (like T. Smith in '08).

If Polian is on his way out, would that hurt us recruiting Smtih??? The gooe news is that he says distance is not a factor which is a plus for us.

I wrote this on another thread. With the rumors about Polian and Polian being his recruiter, this can't help the situation.

You're probably right, but Polian is a ST coach. If we bring in some new staff that coaches the defense, and more specifically LB's, then I think we can maintain our position with Smith.

We could lose this kid over our coaching changes, no doubt, but this needs to happen ASAP to see if we can shore up our defense.

Hopefully all of those rumors about his parents no liking SC b/c of Steve's academic situation are true. Also, if we do get Corwin, maybe he can make a visit to Malcolm after he's done with Donald and Edwards. M. Smith is a very important get for us now and I agree that he can really be an impact guy in another year or two.

says he's real high on both ND and Cal, he also says he'd like to major in engineering (both Cal and ND have great engineering programs).

IMO, Cal has better Engineering programs. But, I hope NDs academic support programs are superior... that would tip the scale for me. Engineering is a grind of a program.

malcom smith is scheduled to visit USC today then make his decision. can we expect an announcement by the end of january?

There is a new article on Rivals about ND possibly going after Paul Stefanik (who is a 2* LB currently committed to Kent). I wonder if this is just an article to fill space, or if the staff feels like Smith is gone.

it has to be a filler, i don't think ND would waste a scholorship for next year on this kid. at a combine he was messured at 6'1 185 lbs. and clocked at 4.78 40.

Seems like a player Ty would go after.

i don't remember what the deal was or why he was never offered but i bet ND would take him now.

The deal with these 2 are that they were both considered 2nd tier targets by the staff and were "on hold" til the smoke cleared for the 1st tier guys. The only problem was that they wanted to commit early….so ND missed out on the chance to fall back on them after the others had committed.

A bird in the hand.

Meanwhile, Linebacker U thinks both are good enough to carry on a great tradition.
