jfschellcrna
yup, illinois all the way. the path is way too easy.
atrain78255
I think we have a better chance now with Hughes now that DW is leaving for the NFL. He would be right in the mix to challenge as a starter next year at ND.
Guest AtlantaIrish
It still amazes me how Zook has clearly out recruited Weis for high school studs like Benn, Wilson, and now Hughes. I wish the kids the best of luck, I just wish they could have seen through the BS promises that Zook is making and picked the good guys. irishwavend
Darwinism...I don't wish them the best of luck... I wish them what survival of the fittest brings them, and it doesn't look like much in their case. I hope they get a good edumacation to fall back on. At least they will learn what ultra-political correctness is all about.
Guest loweND
To be quite honest, this is one of those recruits that I could take or leave. He looks like a pretty good player - but I think Weis and Co. have the ability to recruit elite offensive talent and I'm not sure that I think Hughes fits that description. I wouldn't mind if having one more scholarship to hand out next year instead. I'm sure many of you disagree, but I thought I'd say that now so it won't sound like sour grapes if he chooses Illinois. Guest ctsubalum
My take on Hughes is that he goes to Ill as well. I don't think that DW staying or going had much to do with it though. I think that he sees JA as a much bigger hurdle due to the fact that JA and RH are similar except that JA is a more complete back. I find it hard to think that Hughes would beat out Aldridge or Schmidt for those "Big" back minutes. He'd be smart to go to Ill rather than take a huge chance that he would be buried on the ND bench. Shakko
With TT moving back to RB, I would rather have an '08 back than another '07 back. TT, Aldridge and Allen are more than capable of handling the load (with help from others if injuries arise). I hope that we are done on offense. The Little switch was huge, and if we pull in M. Smith and Blackwell I will be extremely pleased.

ND FANATIC
It still amazes me how Zook has clearly out recruited Weis for high school studs like Benn, Wilson, and now Hughes. I wish the kids the best of luck, I just wish they could have seen through the BS promises that Zook is making and picked the good guys. Atlanta, I'm not sure Zook out-recruited Weis. Notre Dame is what it is, you go to class, you work hard, keep your nose clean, stay out of trouble and then your allowed to play football. Everyone who understands ND knows thats just the way it is, we love it but not everyone does. I think that these guys just wanted a little easier path. Good luck to them. I do believe that Zook out-recruited everyone else though, especially the other Big 10(11) schools.
rdrdreamer
While I am going to miss Darius Walker this upcoming season, I feel that this may be a good sign for Robert Hughes? Robert's going to see the more direct path to the NFL through South Bend as opposed to the Illini. I have always liked Robert. I feel that he will help us. He would bring another option yet to our running back corp. And I am hoping that he sees this path too...
ManCrush
I saw on UHND that Hughes pushed it back again and will now announce on the 23rd. He says he's 50/50.
Shakko
Article confirming: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/colleges/208433,CST-SPT-ndsep12.article Apparently, his school had an early dismissal on the original date, and he wanted his classmates to be at his announcement. mlcspinner
It's a tuff call but I think our backfield is in fine shape. If he decides to come to ND great but it would not be a huge loss.

If he decides to come to ND great but it would not be a huge loss. sorry spinner but I am going to disagree. I do NOT Think we have enough depth at RB. Even if we consider Tate to be a RB, which he probably will be a WR. We NEED another pound it between the tackles type of RB, i.e. Robert Hughes. But no way are we deep at RB. Guest irishfox
I agree that we need more RB's and I believe that RH will be suited up for the Irish next year. If he was going to Ill. he would have said so by now...why push it back so many times. I think Charlie is going to come through on this one. GoIrish24
I second that. Charlie will not let another guy go to Illinois. First Benn, then Wilson, this time he's not letting a third guy go. (And he won't let go any other recruits too)
atrain78255
Sneaking suspicion he's Irish. Agree with Broker, we need more depth at RB still. I think he can easily get early PT by beating out Schwapp/Schmidt at FB. He would join a wide open race for tailback with Aldridge/AA.
