OT - but c'mon! 41-14 in the 4th quarter? Misery loves company, especially with that company being UM and OSU.

To tie this back to recruiting, any chance Weis shuffles staff and puts that call into Cutcliffe "now that you're better and have a year under your belt, we still have a parking spot for you"?

I'll take any assistant that can set up a tent in FLA and start pulling talent from there regularly.

no i don't think he'll be leaving UF for a while, yes he didn't stay at those other schools long but those are smaller schools and you can't compare them to UF.

1. His offensive schemes won't work in the NFL--the defenses are too fast and more complex.

2. He, like Charlie, wanted to settle down while his kids are in school. he'll be there a while.

Not to worry, SEC defenses will catch up to him

i didn't follow UF very closely, but didn't the SEC already figure them out? i mean, as i recall, UF had a very hard time scoring in league play this year. do i remember correctly?

we'll see russ, but just watching his tranformation over the last few years tells me his head will be way too big to stick around, IF he remains successful.

Sorry guys, I have no word on who the possible replacement is at DC.

I'm sure Charlie is talking to coaches right now and weighing their interest.

There is no doubt the Irish do have some talent on the defensive side of the ball, they just need to be coached up like Jon Tenuta does at Georgia Tech.

Thanks for the update AI. On your own, you have any speculation as to what names we should be looking for?

Recommendations include these guys:

Dick Bumpas-TCU Defensive Coordinator

Jon Tenuta-Georgia Tech defensive coordinator

Ken Norton Jr.-USC Linebackers coach and a great recruiter

There are some other names mentioned including Walker who didn't show enough interest in the job and wanting to leave UCLA.

I wish I knew more, but we might find out more this Thursday

after watching UF whoop up on OSU i think UF will turn into another USC type program where they are competing for NC every single season. i also think that UF will probbly take big time control of florida recruiting.

Not so fast. First USC plays in a weaker conference where every year they can expect to get only 3-4 tough challenges. Secondly they are CLEARLY the big dog in recruiting in California, with Cal and UCLA a distant 2nd and 3rd.

Florida has to navigate the SEC every year, and lets not forget they were only in the NC game this year because SC crapped the bed against UCLA. Plus Miami and Florida St. are much bigger competitors for talent in Florida than UCLA and Cal are in Cali.

One thing though that is key. The wild card in all of this is some New Jersey guy from a Midwest Catholic school thats snatched a 5 star lineman from Florida last year, the best QB in the nation from Cali this year, and countless others from both states. So if Florida and SC can corral this loose cannon, then they may have a chance at putting together two dynasties at once. Until then, not so much.
