Don't get me wrong, Clausen looked awesome and had a ton of balls dropped on him. I was, however, blown away by the arm on Ryan Mallet. he is going to be a handfull for the next few years. Our only saving grace is he looks a little slow. God do we need a pass rush!!! Also, Gallipo and Griffin are going to give us nightmares!

He started off slow, but picked it up later. I didn't pay too much attention because the rules for protecting the QB are in place. Plus, Jimmy was never showcased and didn't seem that he needed to prove much more at the HS level. He seemed to be there for the fun and get with his future team-mates.

Yeah Mallet looked pretty darn good, man is he a big boy with a big arm, hopefully Carr will work his magic and he will turn out mediocure...

as far as Gallipo and Griffen...ug..I am seriously gonna hate hearing their names for the next 4 years.

Ryan Mallett is going to be John Navarre Jr., except with more arm strength.

I was impressed too, but for that reason, he doesn't worry me.

Mallet did look good at throwing the ball, but man was his running terrible.

what happens when he faces a team with a defence that can get to him? if he cant move, he goes down.

im not big on knowing what a good 40 time is, but according to scout his 40 time is 5.13 ..looking at some of the 40 times for the top prospects that time looks more like that of an offensive lineman, and even some of them are faster

Mallett did look awfully slow, but he appears to have a strong arm. To behonest...it was hard to tell due to the level of play, no disrespect intended to those playing yesterday, but with lack of mobility...he could be a target for an agressive pass rush. (hate to bring this up again...) Had Russell had the agressive pass rush on him last week, he too could have turned the ballover more...IMO!

Gallipo and Griffen...we will need to stunt block and place more emphasis on the fullback? But yeah, they were something!

mallett

is another Morelli

no more

no less

Yeah I wasn't that impressed. Word from the practices was that Mallett was having a much harder time reading coverage's than Clausen. In the scrimmage against the West D he threw 2 picks.

And that was a defense that only practiced together for 3 days, and their coverages and blitz packages were simple.

Sure his arm strength was great, but he is about as fast as Bledsoe and has a long way to go to be able to read college D's.

so basically, he is John Navarre or Chad Henne all over again. Nobody is going to question his arm strength, its a cannon, but you need more than that to be a successful QB.

I can see why scUM went after Mallet..he is the prototypical QB for them in their system, which I don't think has changed in the 25 years I've been watching college football. Like every other UM QB, he is tall, has a strong arm, stays in the pocket if at all possible and doesn't have great mobility. Things won't change at all with Michigan, they never seem to anyway!

That's odd I thought he looked average, slower than an ice flow. I'd would have thought Carr would be tired of immobile QB's, but then again no one has ever accused him of being a fast learner.

he's got a strong arm but one of the commentators put it best when he said, "he better be good at handing off if he's going to Michigan".

There has never been a reason to "fear" a Michigan quarterback since i've been alive. They run to set up the passing game but thats all. He probably wont be any different than Chad Henne (except he wont have any passes batted down at the line)
