Irish Eyes has an article about Southlake Carroll running back Tre' Newton posted on the front page. I'm not a subscriber to Irish Eyes, and the article is premium content, but its presence on the front page tells me that he must be an Irish recruit.

I live in North Texas, and this is news to me. What's the buzz about him possibly going to ND?

If you don't know, he's Nate Newton's son and put up big rushing numbers in Carroll's pass-oriented offense.

I don't know what the article said but he seems to like ND alot and he's suppose to be an elite talent. He was even 1 of the Ten juniors to watch in 2007 in Wednesdays USA Today. Check it out right here http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/football/2006-12-26-top-juniors_x.htm
he's a nice RB prospect but im not totally impressed, doesn't seem to have that breakaway speed.

RB Tre Newton-Video Clip

I agree dangeruss. He has good vision and good balance. He is able to break the occassional arm tackle. Honestly though he looks slow. I am not saying he isnt a game breaker, he actually looks slower than anyother back we have at ND already.

I have seen Newton play in person a few times...there's no doubt he's good. I guess I should clarify that I wasn't so much asking about his talent or who he was...this was just the first time I had seen his name linked to us.

In the state title game last weekend, he had a 70+ yard TD run in which he broke multiple tackles by the defense and just took off.

I will try to find a clip and link it here later today.

I enjoyed watching his video and he is good at breaking tackels. I think his down fall is he does have break away speed - kind of like Darius Walker. There was not one clip where he is burning the secondary for a touchdown. I looked on Rivals for his 40 time and it is listed at 4.6.

one RB i would really like to see ND go after next year is ryan bass out of california. not sure what the odds of ND landing a stud RB out of Cali are but im sure they are pretty low (rivals has UCLA as his current favorite).

Is he any slower than HUGHES ?

His stiff arm looked great, his vision is great and he plays against top competition in the country. Personally, I think he may get faster through another year of conditioning and work...

I agree he is a 1/2 step slow and his burst was lacking compared to AA but if he can crank it up a gear in a year or so... I would think he will be a **** RB

If you guys liked Hughes, you should just wait and see on this kid.

hughes is a power back while tre newton is only 190lbs.

Keep in mind that this is Nate Newton's kid. He won't be 190 for long.

He's not that great, or at least he wasn't during the game in which I saw him in person. It seemed like if the QB had no one to throw to, he would just flip Tre that little screen and he would take off with no one left to cover him. He has vision, but not the breakaway speed to go with it.

Well one doesn't get onto the USA Today's Ten juniors to watch in 2007 list without being very, very good. I'm not saying he's a top 10 talent but to be on this list he must be head and shoulders better than most of good players to get that recognition. Take these 40 times with a grain of salt that these sites list, some are accurate but most aren't. Hell for the longest time Scout had Joe McKnight was listed with 4.7 forty time and we know thats not the case.

Well I think some of the hype could be explained by the exposure he gets for being on the national champion team. He's good, Top 100 at least probably around 25, maybe even closer to 50. Just depends on how good the pundits think he is.

As for him not being listed/considered a power back...

Watch the video and realize that he is only going to get bigger, stronger and faster...

and that's about all I have to say about that...

:D Ahh Forrest gump da coach

glad someone got that...
