is it just the way the chips fall or is their a reason why we have lost out on so many recruites this year? first marc tyler says he's a 70% lean to ND and then turns around a commits to USC, james wilson seemed to be a ND lock untill he visited USC who he then committed to, arrelious benn was a ND silent untill the zooker pulled a fast one on us and now even after chris little said that ND and UF had a slight lead on everyone he goes and commits to FSU.

Wins losses and Lessons

Lou don't sue me if as i suspect that was a copyrighted book. I'll fry your ass coach Ahahahaha

Coke and whores, baby, coke and whores. All our recruits get is a bearhug from Charlie. The flesh is weak.

I think it is because we are going against the cream of the crop for the cream of the crop. I think we forget that we are no longer competing for 3 star guys anymore. Four and five star athletes are going to play the process longer. It will be more difficult to also pull this top talent out of state when there is either a successful program in state or strong ties to a particular school. I'm not saying this is the case here for Chris Little. But proximity obviously played a big role in his decision. I think when we start establishing a strong track record against top 10 opponents and in the post season, then we will see fewer of these occurrences. LSU would be a good start.

In regards to FSU, yes, there is a lot of coke and whores.

Russ, who knows on any of those guys you mentioned. For whatever reason ND wasn't right for them. I think we got to see the true character w/ Benn..would've been a great addition, seems like another WR headjob. Wish him the best. Wilson, eerily similar to Little. Sucks...guess their connection to ND wasn't solid, oh well, you move on.... luckily for us it's been to Nuss and Dever. Tyler, what can you say, he's just a Cali guy....I always wondered if UCLA hadn't put the press on him. You battle homestate U and it's a crapshot. Instead of focusing on the losses, think of the wins..like pulling Allen out of Fla.

Russ, when we got that 70 % Tyler lean, we just received a commitment from the best QB recruit in the nation. Imagine the stomach cramps everyone in the college football fraternity felt knowing ND and CW were the beneficiaries of that decision. Or taking GG away from UNC, and AA away from UM the day before he’s ready to commit.

Yeah, I’ll grant the fact that we lost a few good ones, but CW chain sawing through some areas that were formerly off limits to ND will serve as a legacy of heartburn for all.

My concern is the ability to coach up on defense with the men that we get.

let's not fall back into the panic mode of 3-4 weeks ago.

GG was USC not NC, i'm pretty sure AA was UF not UM. but points well taken otherwise

Yes losing "that DC wideout" and Tez to Illinois hurt, but this class is a lot better than TW's second class. Getting a Donald/Martin would be icing on the cake for this one; and if '08 is as half as promising as it looks right now, then we'll be back as a legitimate national powerhouse.

2 ways to look at this:

1. We were just a couple of brain cells (their's not our's) away from the best class in the country: we are competing for four and five star athletes and winning a lot of them.

2. We still need some gamebreakers -- Rockets, Rices, Browns, Bettises, Stonebreakers... It is great to have a class of 4 star athletes and some of them may develop into gamebreakers, but, to ratchet up the odds, we need those "can't miss" guys too.

Let's see what happens with Hughes, Donald and MSG.

If we get those three, I think Coach Weis can look back and say to himself, "stay the course, big guy." If not, he might want to study what happened with all the guys we've mentioned and tweak his technique.

2lakes; thanks for the correction on USC, typo error on my part. When I refered to UM, I meant Urban Meyer. I should have wrote his name, especially since I was using capital letters to denote the institutions. Thanks again for bringing it to my attention.

nd1baby really isn't exaggerating guys, from the second these guys get off the plane they are well taken care of in the way you don't need me to go into detail on.

I'd love to see the perma-grins on their faces when they get home after a weekend of debauchery at many of these schools. While we don't recruit like that, we'd be ignorant to think that it doesn't happen at a lot of places and that we don't lose out on guys every year to those kind of tactics.

Yep. Again, if we did stuff like that, ESPN and all the other sports stations would be all over us. (Well if they found out) But we don't have to worry about that stuff.

I'm not exactly falling into armegeddon mode, but it is very frusturating when I think about how many guys we came soo close to getting. The good news is, we've already got many quality players commited, and we are in position to still finish with a very good class. If anything, the twists and turns this year just go to show that you never know what is going to happen in the soap opera that is recruiting. Sure we've got high expectations and are confident, but it's important to remember that we can't land everyone....this is a marathon, and CW is only in his second year of recruiting...I expect us to improve every year, and if we put together a couple quality classes like this than we are right in it with the other big boys, where we belong!!
