Harrison Smith to be Irish

According to Govols Smith will choose Notre Dame today. The 6'2", 205 safety stolen out of the cradle of the Vols not only clocked a sub 4.4 40, but he has natural football skills. Smith told Scout, "Awareness is probably my best strength. I can read what's going on and what people are doing around me." Those who have seen his film confirm his speed and his instincts, a rarity for so physically gifted an athlete.

Smith and huge Irish target Chris Donald both finished behind Irish recruit Golden Tate for Mr. Football in Tennessee. According to Scout's free page,

he recorded 61 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five interceptions (two returned for scores), three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries. On offense, Smith ran for 1,312 yards and 17 touchdowns on 155 carries. He also caught 32 passes for 446 yards and six touchdowns; he bench presses 305, squats 385 and has a 36" vertical jump. Smith reports a 3.7 core GPA, 28 ACT and an 1850 SAT.

So he's smart, too.

Rival Maryville High coach George Quarles offered up a strong compliment for Smith, "Harrison Smith is - and I love the guys we have from Maryville - but Harrison Smith is the real deal, I think," Quarles said on the News Sentinel Sport Page radio show. "He's super talented."

This is a big get. I have a feeling Harrison Smith is going to be one of the best safeties we've had at ND in a long time.

Get Er Done !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, his grades and test scores are excellent. It definitely appears that he takes academics very seriously so he'd be a perfect fit for ND

Sub 4.40 speed is a nice asset too ;-)

Some kids just seem to be Notre Dame material and Smith definately fits that bill!!!!

Great to have Smith on board... sounds like a great kid..

He is Tommy Z, but 3" taller and even faster and he is a natural safety. I think that he is gonna be great!!!

i hope he's nothing like tommy Z. i think harrison will be a good one, i really like his athletic ability and the fact he's a true saftey instead of an athlete.

that's a little harsh russ but i gotta at least partially agree. I don't think he's a Zibby type besides the fact that he's white and a safety. With Harrison in the fold I think the position of safety is looking great for years to come with Herring coming on strong, Bruton, and my personal favorite Sergio (from Rio).

Lost in the awful recruiting class that was, Herring was a big pull. He wasn't rated that high cause of his class level in high school but he was a 3 time all state pick.....in FLORIDA.

If you guys remember Stuart Schweigert from Purdue think along those lines only better and faster coming out of school. That should put the impact level on par for Harrison Smith! Imagine a safety tandem of Smith and Brown!!!! Awesome!

Yeah, I love Herring. He's a bit undersized and might not scare anyone like Zibby, but he's much more solid. I kinda hope Zibby goes pro so Herring can have his chance at SS.

What a future with Harrison Smith and Sergio Brown. Athletic, smart, great instincts, and they are natural safeties. That was their position in HS, unlike Zibby and Duke.

I dont know if it is televised or anything. Can one of us brotheren help out and update us on the presser for Smith's commit? Thanks, Go Irish
