Who cares... I don't see this kid as doing anything special at the college level, he is big and strong, but a step slow

If we are looking for a power back, than Luke Schmidt and Schwapp can fill that role in the years to come

don't say that, Hughes looks like he's got the potential to be a great player plus he's a great kid. I agree it wouldn't kill our recruiting this year since RB seems pretty well taken care of. But let's be real here, not bitter.

I dont agree at all with this statement. Hughes is a big time prospect at running back that we can definitely use in our system. With Allen and Hughes we'll have our thunder and lightning backfield. And I really dont see why everyone says he's a step slow, all the film I've seen shows him breaking quite a few runs for long yardage.

no problem Dread.

I didn't know how else to respond to the post

ND will be fine because we have ARMANDO ALLEN.

Amen to that Brother Russ.

The article said that the kid heading to Illinois was trying to get Hughes to go with him ... not that Hughes was definitely headed there. Hughes has been a ND lead, and is considering Illinois. Most services thinks Hughes ends up at ND.

Welcome again and glad your jumping in Upstate

You are kidding right? Hughes is going to be a big time college player....even if ND is not the school he ends up playing at.

Sorry but you lose your credibility with me when you say Tez is down to USC and UI. USC??!! They've been out for weeks.

I think Darius is just trying to make his own committment bigger news by dropping Hughes' and Tez's name.

Everything thinks Hughes is Irish. I'm still confident that he's ND bound.

.....and you can't have too many good RB's. Look at Miami when they lost Frank Gore for the season....McGahee stepped up and almost delivered them a NC.

So, I am not that crazy about Hughes, maybe this will help why:

Sr: Darius Walker, Travis Thomas (5th)

Jr: Schwapp

So: James Aldridge, Munir Prince, Luke Schmidt

Fr: Armando Allen,

Golden Tate can play RB if we lose our top 5 running backs next season and by 2008 we should have James Alridge making a bid for All-American as he is the best RB we have brought in over the last 8 years

I realize that Hughes is highly rated, but bringing in Jason Ford or Richard Watson in 2008 will provide us with continued depth for the future...As for this year Daries Hodge would be a better "get" in my eyes because of his speed and power combo...fact of the matter is, he is faster than Hughes, who runs a 4.6 compared to Hodge's 4.4 speed at 220lbs.

Coach you are falling in love with numbers my friend. Hughes is a tough runner who is actually very quick for his size. You cite the 4.6 40 time like its the most important stat to being a good RB. It isn't, Hughes bounces off defenders, read blocks well, and would be an important piece to this class.

Listen I love Aldridge too, but depth at RB is a great thing, and anytime you can get a top 10 RB you should ALWAYS take him.

Regarding Golden Tate, we would be better off trying him out in the secondary or at slot receiver. If we don't have to have him in the depth chart at RB its a good thing.

1) I still think we land R Hughes.

2) Isn't Jonas Gray the marquee running back for the 2008 class?

Daries Hodge is not ND material. The kid has been to 4 different high schools in 4 years (His freshman year, he got kicked out of school for a bomb threat & spent his junior year at Glen Mills, a correctional school).

FWIW, I was told by someone that CW was in fact interested in him earlier on, but once he found out about his rap sheet, he backed off.

As for a football player, the kids is a baller. I've seen the kid play about 6 or 7 times and he is a physical freak. Definitely has a nasty combo of speed and power running. I've never seen a back like him that delivers the blow to defenders, instead of taking the blow from defenders.

I see he has Illinois listed as his favorite, yet he doesn't have an offer from them. I'd hate to see him go there because he is one of those under the radar players because of his off the field problems and I'm sure most coaches aren't to interested in having players like this on their teams.

Never heard anything about his prior issues...that explains why he is not on anyone's committ list at this point...Although with ability and a shady past, he could be perfect for Illinois or Miami...

Speaking of shady pasts...anyone know where Willie Williams transferred to ??? He was the Miami LB who was a top 10 player in the country and on Florida's top ten most wanted list at the same time...well, maybe one of those...

Hughes, who runs a 4.6
If it is all about speed, then IE list Aldridge as 4.6, Walker as 4.45, Quinn as 4.65, and Wooden as 4.3. You can not always count on 40 times as football times. Look at Wooden on the field, he seems slower then 4.3.

I want Hughes and think Weis could really use him!

I like Walker but there is no way he run a 4.4 forty, the kids just doesn't have much of a speed burst hence the only time he makes very good runs are out of draws. What little we've seen out of Aldridge he looks faster than Walker, he seems to hit the hole much faster plus I've seen his forty yard dash at 4.4, 4.5 and 4.6 from different web sites so who know which one is reall even if matters.
