saw this on scout. we are in his top five and he said this.

One thing I'm looking for is tradition. My high school team has a great history and tradition of winning and I want to go to a college that is like that too.

"Notre Dame fits that description," McKnight said. "It means a lot to go there and they are used to winning games. They've been improving every year under coach Charlie Weis. I also really like their offensive coordinator (Michael Haywood). He's the coach recruiting me."

Wow, this sounds promising. I had pretty much written this kid off as either a Trojan or Tiger, but hopefully with a visit CW can make some noise in his recruitment. I know that he will most likely visit ND in January, but does anyone know if Weis has given any in home visits to him?? Also, if Haywood gets this kid than he is the freaking man!!

I don't think we should get our hopes up with McKnight; he's probably using ND as leverage for other teams. Would be a major shocker if he goes to ND

Leverage?

to put a scare into other teams that he's considering....probably the same reason Barksdale still lists ND in his top three even though we dropped him.

CW has been personally pushing for mcknight very hard for awhile now

it all will come down to the visit and how much ground we can make up on LSU and USC

I never thought we had a prayer with McKnight but ND seems to be hanging around in a very dangerous manner. It could be interesting if we get the visit.

I'm confused as to why a recruit would do that. I know coaches do to get more money, but what would a recruit do it for?

Edit:

Aren't they already wanted is what I'm saying. And aren't they already getting a full ride?

If anything he keeps us in just for show. It seems like whenever we talk about what our class might look like a lot of us seem to believe that we will get at least one guy in the end who seemed to be a long shot. Sam Young was that guy in 06, and I think that McKnight would definitely be that guy in 07 if he has a good visit. Hopefully the remaining big guys like Donald, Martin, and Blackwell all make their announcements in the near future so the staff can focus all of their attention on getting guys like McKnight and Peters come January.

Well I was told by a very solid ND source that ND was much better than most think but the last update I got from him on McKnight was about 4 or 5 weeks ago so who knows where ND now stands with the kid.

Sounds good Ricochet, hopefully you can get in contact with this person again sometime. I thnk if CW puts a real press on him and we get a good visit that we may just win this race. McKnight is soo versatile and has been compared to Reggie, and based on his numbers he looks to be a straight up playmaker. Also in the article he says that distance will not be a factor.

I've been trying, he's just a guy thats very connected thats somewhat a friend of the family and he just seems to no everything but he doesn't seem to actively seek it. It's like he goes golfing with some of the boys ( the really, really connected) and they just trade secrets of what they know like it's a secret society.

Let the Recruiting Begin!

After winning the 2A-state championship game, Louisiana running back Joe McKnight says that he wants to "be a winner in college" and is looking at programs with great tradition and history. With that as his criteria, it's no surprise that Notre Dame, LSU, Clemson, Arkansas and USC make McKnight's list.

Five-star running back Joe McKnight (5-11, 185, 4.4), from River Ridge Christian (La.), is celebrating a perfect 14-0 season, including a 41-7 victory over St. Charles in the 2A final game.

McKnight (ranked No. 4 by Scout.com) denies a leader, but favors USC, LSU, Clemson, Arkansas and Notre Dame. He named the schools in this order. All of his favorites have offered, plus several others.

Because of how deep McKnight's team went in the playoffs, he has not taken any official visits yet and denies that he has any set now. "I plan to set those up very soon," McKnight said. "When I take my visits I think I'll know better about where I want to go.

Another school that is rich in tradition is USC. "I love how USC puts the ball in the playmaker's hands," McKnight said. "I hear from coach Ken Norton a lot and he's a cool guy. We talk about everything and I feel comfortable talking to him. They are good year after year and you know you'll get a chance to play for a national championship when you're there."

Local favorite and SEC power LSU is only 45 minutes away, but McKnight says that will not be a factor. "Distance won't matter at all," McKnight said.

He reports a 2.7 core GPA and an 18 ACT.

Its great to know distance won't matter to him. I think we're in decent shape here, particularly if Haywood and Charlie are in charge of his recruiting.

my guess is that it'll be between LSU, USC and ND. i would love for ND to land this guy but going up against LSU and USC im not going to get my hopes up.

I can't believe the kid is waiting this long to actually take his official visits.

That being said, and I realize his HS coach has a policy during the season not to take visits, I think we have as good a chance as anybody especially with our offense and coach.

We are losing our top 2 receivers to the NFL as is USC, I think it is a USC-Notre Dame for the kid in my opinion.
