What do you guys think of Mike Leach, the head coach of Texas Tech? What kind of job do you think he can do at a place like Miami? Is he the disciplinarian type? BTW, this is directed to TD and Broker, but anyone is welcome to offer their thoughts. Thanks in advance.

U to be honest i think Miami could do better

i think he runs a gimmick offense, and sure it puts up big numbers but im not so sure putting better athletes in it will improve how it works against big time D (think about Meyers offense, its gimmicky and it hasnt proven itself against big time D's even with better guys in it)

i do think he is a good coach, and hiring him would mean that shannon would stay at D coordinator (more than likely) which i think it a big plus for the school and for the D

leach isnt a big name so he wont help you recruit that much, but again that shcool recruits itself

you dont hear about him having discipline problems, but i dont think hes the type of guy to come in and lay down the law either

personally i would think he should be seen as a backup choice, hes not a real up and comer, he runs a pretty clean program, and hes an average name, he does have a gimmick offense that will put up big numbers but im not so sure it will win you NC's

that all being said i think Miami can do better

Leach would probably chew his left arm off to get the Miami job, though. I concur, UM could do much better

Alot of Miami folks seem to have the same views as you TD. For me personally, i just want our AD to try anything to get this offense going again.

yea i agree with that UM, the offense has been bad, but i dont know if a gimmick offense is where to go, maybe an NFL guy would be the way to go, there are going to be some coaches fired at the end of the year and miami would be a nice job for some of them

Remember when Knight kind of sort of smacked that kid, well ESPN radio was talking about both Knight and Leach, and they kind of made Leach out to be sort of quirky and weird.

well, I have not seen much of Texas Tech so I am not the best person to ask but I have never been a fan of their style. I agree with TD's explanation.

Team, what are you hearing about Leach. Is it almost a done deal?

And what about Cooper? Will he still end up at 'Tha U' if Leach and his pass happy offense are highered?

I have to disagree TD. Well, sorta... I saw Mike Leach at a coach's clinic basically dissect his entire offense. While simple, it is based on reading the defense and making the pass out of the shotgun. Or, the QB is given a run pass option based on the defensive front. It was a really intriguing presentation as his offensive scheme makes sense and takes into account a lot of variables. The problem that Miami has is that Kyle Wright won't grasp it. With athletes that Miami has, Leach's scheme could be unbelieveable. Now, come back to me in 3 years when he sucks and you can say wave is an idiot; but for now, that is my opinion. Do I think there are better guys out there? Definitely. But, I don't think you will do too poorly with Leach either. I think the biggest issue would be recruiting, but hell, if he can get athletes at TTech, I guess he can get them at the U. The guy is the most boring, bland person in the world.

wave i dont necessarily disagree with you either

its possible it could work with the right personell, i just dont know how it will play out against the biggest schools

Prepare to be excited though. They Don't call it the Texas Tech Air Raid for nothing.

It'll be interesting to see what Leach can do with an agressive offense and some Florida speed.

i hope for miami's sake he can keep shannon

to me he should be running that D

and if they keep him at D and this offense works like some of you think it will Miami will be a force without a doubt

If you were Shannon would you stay.... Granted he loves the school but it has got to be a little slap in the face that they skip over him to go to some coach from a second rate school.

sure where else is he going to get the talent like that?

better to be a great DC at your school for awhile where the talent is great then to be unemployed

plus if he holds on there long enough he will get a big time coaching job

I'm still hearing that the WV coach still maybe in the running and Alveraz the AD at Wisc may still be in the picture also.

I would be absolutely shocked if Alvarez left UW. I loved Barry when he was at ND. Although if you think about it, his departure helped lead to the dark days that ND is only now coming back from. Remember that Alvarez was defensive coordinator for the Irish under Holtz before he left to become a head coach. His leaving led to bringing in a young coach who made a name for himself by developing the old "wrecking crew" defenses at Texas A&M. That coach was Bob Davie, and I think we all remember how that turned out.

Also, I think the coach from WV may be heading to Alabama.

Miami is a tough gig. The thug reputation means that the media will (rightly or wrongly) jump on any story of undisciplined conduct, but to some UM fans it is a badge of honor. Also because of UM's recent past success, the fan base has very high expectations. They may have trouble finding a big name coach, despite the obvious facility and recruiting advantages that go along with coaching at "tha U". IMO they may have to go with a "back up" choice.
