That's right guys, with the commitment of AA ND moved from 13 all the way up to 8!! We are going to end up with a terrific class full of a ton of talent and more will commit this weekend. After this weekend ND will probably in the top 5, which will be comforting.

After AA's commitment we moved up to #1 in ESPN's recruiting rankings, however, just a few day after we moved up to 8 in the Rivals rankings, we dropped back to 9 with scUM jumping us!!! What's the deal with this?...is it because they've already got a guy signed his LOI?

I think it's bull**** that JUCO's and Prep players count towards classes.

Β

IMO, they should only count towards the classes the year they were seniors in high school.

Β

Teams like Nebraska, Ole Miss, UF, etc... have 5*'s, but their JUCO's.

Β

Just not fair.

They just got Mark Huyge, a lineman from my school.

Yeah, i never understood how all these JUCO players were ranked 5 stars coming in to college. Georgia picks up a ton of them from Virginia Hargrave Military Academy and they come in and most of them suck.

I think it is lazy grading from the scouts.

Honestly...... who cares?

I'm not bothered if some teams pulls some late coups etc... as long as we hit what we need. If that landed us #10 then so be it. Its all about consistency

ND Moves to #1 in Recruiting

Β

...with a but.

Β

Last week I talked about how the recruiting momentum has shifted dramatically in Notre Dame's favor now that the season is over; this week ESPN moved ND up to number one in its recruiting rankings:

Β

"Notre Dame, with seven ESPN 150 verbal commitments, moves to No. 1 in Tom Luginbill's Class of '07 recruiting rankings. Notre Dame moves to No. 1 because they are meeting needs at crucial positions like cornerback, defensive end, wide receiver and quarterback. All are areas of concern for the Fighting Irish heading into the 2007 season. Wide receiver Greg Little (Durham, N.C./Hillside), quarterback Jimmy Clausen (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian), defensive end Kerry Neal (Bunn, N.C.) and cornerback Gary Gray (Columbia, S.C./Richland Northeast) all will have a significant opportunity to contribute as freshman."

What's behind the surge?

Β

First off, great planning by the staff to get on these kids early.

Β

Second, great hustle. Weis went out on the road once the USC debacle was in the books.

Β

Third, Notre Dame traditionally does well once the hype of the season settles and the reality hits kids that most Army All-American recruits never make the NFL. When Notre Dame has a good coach, and it does, Notre Dame will recruit well. Charlie has the NFL experience and connections kids covet, ND has a national TV contract and facilities and the University offers an education (and more importantly the support) that is unmatched by any top football school. When the hype and the salesmanship die down and kids are able to discern the important from the unimportant, that package becomes hard to beat.

Β

Here's a list of the top 150. The kids in the blue are Notre Dame commits, the kids in the green are kids Notre Dame is pursuing.

Does this mean ND will finish #1 in recruiting? No. But it does mean that this staff knows how to sell the school and after back to back BCS seasons, Notre Dame is in good position to finish in the top five. The key is going to be closing strong on the defensive side of the ball and finding some defensive tackles. The Irish have recruited exactly ONE true defensive tackle in the last THREE years. Read that again: ONE true defensive tackle in the last THREE years.

Β

All the speed in the world ain't going to matter if your defense is starting every play a yard off the line of scrimmage.

Hey Bleed go to http://WWW.NDnation.com and you can find the article there.Sorry you cant't post color.

im starting to really see a top five or very possibly a top three class. with everyday that goes by i start to feel that landing martin, blackwell, donald, wilson, m. smith, h. smith, romine, MSG, devers, hughes and tate can all be strong possibilites.

I received an email from a buddy with ND ties who said he talked to Jason Sapp personally and that he believes the Irish may have received a commitment from Hughes this past weekend.

Β

He also said if this is true then our chances of landing Martez Wilson are much better.

ND is now ranked #6 in rivals recruiting.

ND is now ranked #6 in rivals recruiting.

Number 2 in Average Star ratings too, only behind the Poodle and Co.
