Guest The Army Awakens
Just heard Eric Allen of ESPN report that Charlie Weis has been in communication with members of the Browns organization in the event Romeo Crennel is terminated at season's end. Allen also said his "sources" have told him that if Tom Coughlin's Giants continue to meltdown and either limp into the playoffs or miss them altogether, the Giants are also going to seek Weis. I know Charlie isn't going anywhere but give me a better reason to be contacting Browns organization in the event of Crennel being terminated... There is your new D-Coordinator... The first part of the paragraph was fact and the second was his personal opinion and from a source...

Guest Pete
Did Eric Allen really call Dorrell clueless on ESPN
Guest IndyIrish
Todd Grantham (Browns' D. Coord) is also being pursued by several teams. I had heard he was in the running for MSU's job, but that must've fallen through. I would not mind Crennel jumping on board at all!!
Guest JerseyDomer
I seen this on another board and was gonna ask if it was credible or not. Looks like it is. now ROMEO would be an immediate upgrade to say the least and if any kid wants to go to the NFL--well whoi better to be coached by then Crennel. WOW! Guest chrislw35
Good Info. The reason he is contacting the Browns is easy. It has long been rumored that if Romeo doesnt work out up there he wants him at ND as the Def. Coord. This has been talked about but not sure if Romeo would take the job at ND, but Romeo and Charlie are close. They coached together at New England. This could be the exact same reason for contacting the Giants. Coughlin really knows his def. Go Irish!!!!
Grason
We definitely need a new D-coordinator; Romeo would be a dream. I don't really see that happening though. If it does,.. we would be set. Romeo Oh Romeo
Guest NDEagles379
I think the Browns give Romeo one more year. However, if they don't, that would be amazing to get him. Although I'd be surprised if an NFL team doesn't snatch him up and pay him more than ND would. It depends on his friendship/loyalty to Weis. I bet the administration would pay him well enough for him to consider it. "What a blow for you guys if Weis leaves. I wish my Bruins had him instead of clueless Dorrell." -Pete, this is Army's opinion, not Eric Allen's.
NDFan3
If got Crennel I would honestly not know what to do with myself. Two very...very successful NFL coordinators back together would give us the strongest coaching staff in the country. We would def. have more luck inrecruting those top D prospects. Guest NDEagles379
Wait, re-reading the original post, it makes it sound like Weis in interested in the Browns job, which is obviously not the case. "The Giants are also going to seek Weis." Are the Browns seeking Charlie? It seems like Charlie is seeking Crennel, which makes sense to all of us. Maybe it was just the way Army wrote it- can you clarify? Would we seek Coughlin? He might be more of a longshot than Crennel- was he a DC back in the day? Soko
Seeing as this is the recruiting board I'll only focus on what such an appoitment would have One word - WOW. Hello NFL for ANY kid that wants to go to ND. If that happens, and I still thinks its a very long shot, then ND will become a superpower like USC is now today. Not elite, superpower recruiting
patches12345
This would be UNBELIEVABLE. but guys, is this really going to happen. No way. sorry for being pessimistic about this but do people on here really think this could happen?

No way. sorry for being pessimistic about this but do people on here really think this could happen? could it happen? yeah, why not. Will it? Who knows. But if this is true, then there has to be some chance of it happening since it was initiated by Charlie himself. CW wouldn't inquire if there was no chance of it occuring-just my thoughts. Guest The Army Awakens
I think what Eric Allen was reporting was that the Giants would be interested in Weis and that the Browns and Weis were communicating with each other and Allen and every other journalist would assume that the Browns were interested in Charlie. But we all know he wants to be in South Bend, the outcry of ND fans and his own personal disappointment with the defense and in Rick Minter as a defensive coordinator... Along with the rumors of the Browns being dissatisfied with Crennel especially after a losing 30-0 to Cincy and having his players turning on each other doesn't help... Then we hear that the two "organizations" are communicating in some form or fashion... Charlie wants a d-coordinator who can control and coach his own defense... Check... Sensing that Weis knows not only does he have to change his schemes to become NFL ready but also knows that having some type of African-American influence is essential to recruiting look up SC and Ohio State and Texas... Because of the fact that South Bend isn't an encouraging area he needs a DC that is also a stud recruiter with Weis lining up on the offensive guys and Crennel lining up defense... 2 mill a year is hard to pass up to.... dangeruss
i don't know a whole lot about romeo crennel but is he to a defense as what CW is to an offense?
Guest The Army Awakens
He is a highly respected NFL Defensive Coordinator... Gave Manning fits with his 3-4... That is the best defense to run... Look at the Chargers, Pats, and the only way to have a good 4-3 is to have two big run stuffers, athletes at DE and a stud middle linebacker with fast OLB.... dangeruss
Look at the Chargers, Pats, and the only way to have a good 4-3 is to have two big run stuffers, athletes at DE and a stud middle linebacker with fast OLB.... in '96 ND set the school sack record using the 3-4 deffense with dansby, madien, wynn, berry, minor, cobbins and tatum. im not sure ND has the players for a 3-4 defense. i think ND has some good players that could play OLB like richardson, neal, wade, but who would the DE's be. i think justin trattou would be a good one. OddThomas
This is just your typical "sports talk" radio claptrap trying to make a story out of nothing. Romeo has got another year and Charlie isn't going anywhere. Someone at ESPN came up with this brain-cramp thought that USC is young, ND is graduating most of its starters, ergo Charlie won't be able to beat USC therefore he would be interested in the Giants. I heard this on the morning ESPN station while driving. Just another reporter trying to read Weis's mind and making a case for a non-existant story. Guest IndyIrish
A hypothetical 3-4 needs a stud DT, which we are lacking. Maybe Blackwell would fill that void. Other than that it is basically insert athletes everywhere. Trattou at one DE, maybe Martin at the other. Richardson, Neal on the corner LBs and Smith/Filer in the middle.
