Hope they find someone that can replicate his recruiting ability.

This hurts way more than any of the transfers. How could we not match the salary USC offered with all the money we just made in the CFB playoff? Recruiting still needs work, but it’s better than it’s been in a long time. The depth we have is absolutely insane and this year isn’t possible without that fact.

They may have someone in house already, someone who is ready to take over. 3x salary is a big jump esp when they just made a big jump last year when Mich came around.

Coat of living in LA will take a big chunk of that 3x increase. So to Greg, no if you pay me 7 figures and I’m making good money in a low cost of living area no I don’t automatically move for a lateral position.

Agree - this is the worst news all week, particularly since he will have a big impact in recruiting for USC.

This whole thing is getting more ruthless by the day!

Exactly how I felt, and I’m really annoyed Notre Dame didn’t want to at least match what USC offered.

Bad timing with the visits this weekend, but I am ok with it. I think ND can even upgrade here.

Very bad timing, but no assistant coach or GM will be in the same position for long. I know every off-season, people always get dramatic at the negative news that comes out. “The Sky is falling" mentality each and every off-season.

This one is disappointing, but this timing sticks with Junior Day tomorrow.

I'm sure we'll be alright. Freeman and the team drew a lot of spotlight to the program and it was all positive.

Freeman is the HC. All of these guys can be replaced.

Fair enough, everyone has their own calculus.

Personally, if you pay me that much I’m going to pick Los Angeles over South Bend every day. Particularly in the winter.

Bowden seems awfully important to the football program. I would have offered $100k less to see if that would keep him in place. Would he uproot his family and leave people he’s worked with for a long time for an extra $100k? Don’t think so. If he’s really good at his job, he is worth the pay raise.

why not match the offer????
