Tough decision for Marcus Freeman. There wonโ€™t be a shortage of really good candidates here. If ND brings in a DC from outside, the risk is they will lose Mike Mickens, who has been lights out.

My money is on Mike Mickens as the next DC!

You know, we should bring Kiser in as a GA and groom him to be DC in the futureโ€ฆ. Heโ€™d be my ideal candidate in 3-5 years.

Use somebody who knows Goldenโ€™s system and will listen to Marcus. Mickens is probably perfect for that. I donโ€™t want an entirely new system. If we do hire outside, I want someone from the NFL who h

Hoping for Mickens for the same reason. Lights out recruiter and evaluator, and the on the field product speaks for itself. Additionally, continuity will probably stay pretty similar as far as the Xโ€™s and Oโ€™s on defense and player familiarity. If Mickens path is to be a HC this is the next step and he'll have a premier D to make his case.

Weโ€™ve got a great pass defense, soโ€ฆ how about we poach Bryant Haines from Indiana? He crafted one of the top run defenses in the nation

As everyone already knows, my vote is Mickens!

Just remember he did that with Indiana level players. Imagine what he could do with ND level defenders.

I think you go Mickens. Not only is he a great choice but to keep stability and normalcy intact as much as possible. if Freeman doesnโ€™t give him the job, be assured that another coach will be sniffing around to poach him.

I have no clue. Put me on the clue transplant list; definitely in need of one.

I donโ€™t know if Mickens wants to be a DC or if Freeman thinks Mickens would be the best DC for the team. Clearly Freeman will take all of the associated issues into consideration.

I love how ND has recruited linebackers and cornerbacks and safeties the last few cycles. D-line definitely needs some work. Whoever gets the job will have a lot of talent to work with, but has work to do. And, just being able to work well with the coaching staff already in place is huge.

Can someone please find a good donor source for a clue for me?

Gotta be Mickens. In my useless opinion

and we all knew this was going to happen. I was only wrong that it was the NFL instead of college head coach for Golden. But Golden is not a huge recruiiter never really was.

If he hires/ promotes Mickens, Freeman would take a more active role in calling the defense whether he admits it or not. If he hires and outside guy to call the defense, position coaches may leave so' we will need to wait and see.

Position coaches and potentially players with them. We saw that in the WR room, which didnt seem to be a bads thing :)

Very much like the in-house promotion of Mickens too, but Irish Illustrated has posts in their premium chats ( I am not a subscriber) about Knowles of Ohio State as a possibility. Why would he leave the Bucknuts?

So one of the reasons for Knowles leaving (and the rumor is Oklahoma) is that apparently his Fiancรฉ/Girlfriend/Wife (I forget which) lives in Oklahoma.

I believe that is why he was long rumored to be going to OU and my impression is that opened up the idea about taking a look at other opportunities, or rather schools reaching out if he was already open to leaving.

Also, on a personal note, sometimes once you reach the mountiantop, you want a new challenge. That part is pure speculation on my behalf.

Either way, OSU wont let him go easily/cheaply
