Right now ESPN has ND projected as the 6th seed and would host Miami for game 1. The winner would then play SMU.

I really really like those 2 games for ND. Miami is very good with Cam, but a late December game in SB Indiana would not do them any favors. Also, the ND pass D is alright :-)

I may have to change my stance on the whole β€œjoin a conference” topic.

I have seen many projections, with ND being either the 5th or 6th seed, playing Arizona State, Miami, or Clemson.

So much will be determined in the conference championship games.

If Clemson beats SMU, I wonder if SMU falls out altogether, and if the ACC only has one team in the playoff in that case.

Personally I like the idea of Miami, who I loathed in my youth.

Additionally I'd like to add that things need to change with this format going forward. The automatic top 4 seeds to conference winners needs to go, see the ACC and Big 12 for reference. Conference championships need to go as well. It's horseshit that a loss there won't hurt with regard to the playoffs. The games are a money grab by the conferences anyhow.

With the current playoff format I think it hurts you adding in another meaningless game, after you know you're going to the playoffs. Increased chance of guys getting hurt, even less time off and practice time for the PO, etc. Why not just play all your back-ups in a CCG?

Maybe this is part of the transition in CFB to make a super league with the top 60-70 teams in a divisional/regional format like the pros and do away with confernces.

I think College Football needs a promotion / relegation system like English Premier League / Championship League soccer.

Don't follow soccer so not sure. I'm guessing it's along the lines of if you are a really good FCS school or whatever subdivision you can jump to the bigs. And if you are a crappy big league team, a perenial bottom dweller, you get demoted and replaced.

I would love any combination of SMU, Miami, Arizona State.

I would dislike playing Ohio State This early in the postseason.

This is my 1st post about the 2024 College Football Playoff.

The House that Rockne built will be open to start this new era as it should be.

the power 4 will never agree to that. They’ll just tell ND that if they want a bye, go join a conference.

The true power 2 would. That wasn't even arguing for ND. The SEC and B1G are going to argue that the ACC and Big12 champs are crap most years, far below their 2nd-4th conference place winners. Why should our teams, who are clearly better, not get a bye if ranked higher with less losses?

I truly wasn't arguing for ND to qualify for 1-4 seeding with byes.

Pretty much how I feel at this point! Miami, SMU, or even Georgia would be good to bring to South Bend in late December! πŸ˜œπŸ˜‚

Get rid of the automatic byes for conference championships. It’s a cash grab anyways. Clemson, b12 champ or Bouse shouldn’t be given an automatic bye just because they won their conference. You lose 3 games you should not be allowed to get a bye. Or if they want to do a basketball model and count conference champions, then allow them to get a spot. But retail the teams based on composite rankings. Speaking of that, get rid of the committee. So, we have 12 random guys who I know don’t watch every game judging teams based on opinions. Because that’s all it really is. There opinions. They’ve shown that already this year by weekly changing what team deserves based on this formula then going against it for another team. It’s biased and it shouldn’t be the best way to handle a billion dollar industry. I’d rather have the computers tank them. I understood back in the bcs days. But that was for just two teams. With AI and what they can input now it would make the most sense.

In soccer, typically a league of 20-30 teams and the bottom 2-4 move down to a lower league while the top 2-4 of lower leagues move up. It is called a pyramid because there are way more lower leagues with only a small amount of teams at the top.

In england there are 9 levels, with the lowest essentially being beer league… technically if your sunday beer league team won its league championship 9 straight seasons, with increased competition, you would be playing in the english premier league

Correct me if I’m wrong. When Eeece was asking Manuel to clarify, it sounded like the teams that are in it will be staying in it. Unless you are Clemson and Iowa State. And only re-ranking teams will happen depending on results. Georgia beats Texas etc.

So ND wants Texas to win so they get the 5th spot

They want Oregon to win. To move ahead of Penn State.

I think they want Clemson to win then. Either SMU stays and gets bumped down or Clemson and the ACC will get that possible 11th-12th spot.

I don’t think it matters who wins between Iowa State and ASU.

But I think if ND wants to avoid an SEC team they want the above mentioned. Unless they drop Georgia all the way down for losing to Texas. Regardless, ND hosting!
