I love my Irish, but do we break kickers? Wasn’t Jeter one of the most accurate kickers in the country coming in? Just a though.

GO IRISH!

I don’t know a ton about Notre Dame kickers and their history, but I love watching Brandon Aubrey with the Dallas Cowboys. Feels like he’s the next Justin Tucker.

I’m thinking they’ll be looking at kickers in the portal again.
Probably a great gig, really. Be a decent kicker, get a degree somewhere, then go through the portal to some name-brand team that needs a kicker. Get a free graduate degree. Seems like programs don’t want to ‘waste’ a scholarship on a kicker. I wonder if that changes when they start giving 105 scholarships a year.

Jeter has been sidelined with a groin injury for the last month or so. Since Louisville, he’s only tried two field goals (went 1-2 last week against FSU). He has been the guy on extra points, which is encouraging. My guess is that ND is slowly working him back because he has not really been needed with ND blowing every team out the last five games. He will be needed come the Playoffs.

ND has three starting kickers in the NFL right now (Aubrey, Grupe, Schrader), which I’m guessing is more than any other school - although, Aubrey was a soccer guy and the other two were grad transfers. ND will continue going the grad transfer route as it’s worked out well the last few seasons.

ND has had pretty solid kickers the last….umm…a lot of years. I think the last time I worried about NDs kicking game, CW was coach.

I don’t think they “Break” kickers. If you think about it, the kicking game has been pretty solid for a while.

Yoon was one of the best in a long time, and pretty much automatic! Brindza was solid, but a bit of a head case. Doerer struggled his first season starting, but did well his final. Grupe was also really good, and Shrader did okay besides his accuracy being an issue.

Overall, the last 10 seasons kicking has been good. As @tneun89 said, Jeter has been injured, and I feel Yoakam needs more time to fine tune his kicking.

I mean, he has a groin issue from what I heard. That can happen to anyone at any school.

Yeah, and we all know a groin issue for a kicker is a killer!

This was my attempt to find something wrong with this team. With NDlinkyPark gone, someone had to infuse something negative…Am I right? :)

I love all the responses! I love this team. What a season this has been!

And we thank you for doing it with some class! 🫡

But yes, what a season this has become! 🙌🏼

Go Irish!!!

I think this deserves a bump. Not relevant at this point as to the why, but what do we do now? I feel like the only option left is the ASU open tryout option given how little success we have had in the kicking game even going back to NIU. I haven’t watched that game since, but it seems like a combination of poor line play plus a low line drive kick contributed to the blocks. What do we do to fix the kicking game for the remainder of the year?

In college, Becky used to help with those

Freeman did mention this being one of the issues, but then went on to say that Jeter wasn’t the problem. I disagree, because his last couple of kicks that did get up and out were way wide!
