The "Golden Era" of Defense

Al Golden was Marcus Freeman’s choice to become his defensive coordinator after Freeman became Head Coach. Golden has turned out to be a wonderful choice. His leadership experience coaching both at the NFL and college level has resulted in a scheme that is player driven and uses the defenses strengths to limit the high-powered spread passing attacks that have become popular across the nation.

    Really like Golden as DC. We haven't played murderers row for high powered offense, but I believe we've kept everyone well below their season average. Truly excited to see the youngsters getting reps and doing well, that will bode especially well in the future. Even with injuries we have been plug and play which says a lot about quality depth.

    Crazy good defense. Did you see the graphic during the game? ND is the only team in the nation top 10 in all defensive categories. Before the 4th quarter the VA QB had a 5.9 passer rating.

    Too true!

    But what’s great is that even after USC put up 35 points, Notre Dane is still at 13.5 PPG allowed! 😝

    And they would have had 28 if not for a garbage time TD. I’m still concerned that SC was able to score pretty easily at times, but it was at home and anything can happen in a rivalry game.

    I was annoyed by it too, but kind of glad it happened! They will only be able to use it to see where to improve and get better!
