Notre Dame legend Tim Brown took time to remember his first head college football coach on Monday night.

I saw this morning that Faust died. I think I attended just about every home ND game that he coached. I was there when we beat LSU and the resulting excitement that ultimately was not meant to be. My freshman and sophomore years at ND were his last two years. He was a poor coaching choice but a good human being.

I went to high school with his daughter who was a year ahead of me and his son who was a year behind me. My thoughts are with them and their families as they grieve their loss.

I was a student during Coach Faust’s last four years. I had the opportunity to speak with him at practices, observe him at practice, speak with him around campus, and to bump into him years later on campus. Coach Faust was an All-American as a human being. Even if it did not work out on the football field (there were some good wins), he was awesome. Notre Dame is richer for having had him on campus for five years. Prayers for Coach Faust, his family and friends.
