4thand1
I figured the bye week would be a good time for this. We all see the improved young depth which is better than I have seen in a while with some exceptions. The secondary, running back, QB, linebackers and OL rooms are going to be loaded going forward. I see a few remaining weaknesses. The staff has to find a way to make some improvements with WR, DT and vyper recruiting. When it comes to the DL, I think they are recruiting the 3 tech and strong side end well. It's the vyper and 5 tech or NT that needs improvement. I see NIL money coming into play with those areas more so than other positions. I would tell the donors that the team is very close to reaching the recruiting levels needed to play for a championship. Just get me a bit more to take it over the top. Pay a top vyper one year and a top NT the next year. Layer it and you will have the #s and talent needed. WR recruiting needs NIL money but you might get away with getting the guys you need just by putting a more dynamic offense on the field. If you have a dominant OL and running game, you can get away with just 1 really good WR recruit each year.
coltssb
Great question on a bye week! My few thoughts…. Recruiting would be even better if Kelly left a year earlier or NIL was a year or two later. Freeman has lost some dudes because of this. ND has a string NiL program from what I have gathered. But they aren’t going to be shelling out money to highschool kids before they even take a snap at the college. Besides that, that’s not how NIL is really to be run. So, I don’t fault Freeman on being on par or slightly better than Kelly at this stage. As far as the NT goes. This will always be an issue as long as ND holds its academic standard. Also, pulling 6’2 315lbs kids out of the south where every major school is going after them will be hard. It’s not easy for Ohio State. Why would it be easier for ND? Guys like Scott was a must. But again, that’s where NIL hit Freeman. ND simply needs to keep adding and almost over recruiting that position so it has depth and TIME to build these guys up physically and weight wise. WR’s are a bit perplexing to me. Almost like ND has recruited the same type of guy for quite awhile-the McKinley’s, Stovall, Austin, Thomas. Big bodied physically gifted guys but lack the fast twitch they need to get open. I like the recent commit. He’s going to be a project but is super fast and twitchy. They need a few different type of guys like this. Fiason May end up being pretty good. But he’s got to stay healthy. I know it sounds insanely crazy, but Weis knew talent and could get talent. Even when money was secretly involved at schools. Wei’s could close. I may be inclined to ask him to come in for three seasons and do some recruiting and be a qb coach. But maybe that’s too much ego going on everywhere to do that.

Jburkdd12
until we put an offensive on the field that kids want to play we will struggle to get the best skill position players. NIL money from Notre Dame is the same as you can get at SMU. We are putting ourselves in an unnessary disadvantage by putting a crappy style of play on the field. Kids are not coming at the WR position to Block...
