ND = Navy

Recommended Posts

Watching this offense is basically the same thing as watching Navy football. We may as well run the wishbone. Denbrock is being forced to play a QB who can’t throw the ball other than a screen or 5 yard out. He ought to be commended for being able to come up with enough different ways to disguise a qb run!

Our only passes over 20 yards were on blown coverage where a pop warner qb could have completed the pass. It is so boring to watch!  I can’t tell if our receivers are good or average because we can’t throw the ball more than 5 freaking yards!  It really is pathetic how bad LR is throwing the ball.

I wrote this earlier, but Marcus Freeman is from the Jim Tressell coaching tree and Tressellball was notoriously boring. Google it.

The thing that bugs me is that Denbrock did not design an offense around the best talent he has: His running back room. I would like to see an offense with both Love and Price in the same backfield, but what we've gotten instead  is an even less octane version, conservative version of Brian Kelly's one back offense, which is all Denbrock knows.

Good call on the comparison. So boring and conservative. I don’t blame Denbrock as much tho. How much can you do with this limp armed QB.

How about tight end…???  We hardly throw it to them now…those dudes should be streaking down field.  Hell, Leonard flat out ignored the TE about 5 yards downfield to dump to the rb behind the line of scrimmage and tackled for no gain…

I told my buddy yesterday that we’re navy…shocking when we fire a deep ball.

I think Evans is still working his way back from injury. Some of his cut still don’t look crisp to me.

I think that Leonard's passing game has been poor at times and just okay at its best.  However, I think a large problem for Leonard and the offense is the offensive line.  I think that was one of the appeals for Leonard.  With two starters leaving for the NFL and others no longer at ND, it was going to be a rebuilding year.  Injuries have already exacerbated the challenge.  Leonard is not getting great pass protection.  He is having a hard time going through his progressions to find open receivers.  I think he now is a bit skittish and inclined to run if his first target is covered.  Some of that is his fault, but some of is that the line is not experienced and getting manhandled at times.

I agree...When we see better O-Line play, we will see better offense overall and especially a better passing game.  if the walls close in quick, its hard to find open guys unless the first read is a RB dump off or a 5 yard hitch.

All so accurate here, and I completely agree!

Pretty much what the wife and I have been saying for a while now too!

Also, LSU and Daniels had no problem with this offense. Get some game-changers and it will be alright.

I don’t think our offensive coordinator should need a Heisman Trophy winner - who is looking like an elite level NFL QB - to run a successful offense. Notre Dame has two breakaway threats at Rb and enough talent in Faison, Beaux and Greathouse to be a good offense by getting them the ball in space. Instead, we have an incredibly boring offense with a limited number of plays that doesn’t maximize our best playmakers enough. And no, Riley Leonard is not anywher near an athletic talent as any of the guys I mentioned, but he’s the guy whose name is being called more than anybody else.

All true. Denbrock also is working with a young inexperienced line that has yet to start a game with the same 5 guys. Fiason has been injured all season, and has had a guy who has trouble throwing a 5 yard pass. I can’t fault him with these limitations.  The same way I never understood people’s anger at Rees when he had Pyne. You can’t make a turd into a diamond.

I'd dump Leonard for any of the 3 QB's who is the most accurate and consistent. Yeah, Faison's been hurt but Harrison is plenty fast and- had Leonard not underthrown him- he was wide open for a TD instead of a 34 yard gain. We have the weapons. Worse, Leonard is a one and done on a team that can't win a NC. I'd rather see what the other guys can develop into.

Hey, we can agree on that. I’ve been calling for someone new after the NIU game. I even stopped watching the last two as a boycott to myself. But I couldn’t miss the Louisville game. I think Leonard is coming around a little. Let’s hope for both our sakes that he can prove us wrong.
