One thing you want to see this week..

Recommended Posts

What is the one thing you want to see this week that will give you back that feeling of confidence in this team that you felt after the A&M game?

I would like to see the play action game be used much much more.  This team is clearly run first, and Riley Leonard's confidence throwing the rock may be at an all-time low.  It would be nice to see more of the offense focused around using the run game as a decoy to open up some throwing lanes.  Yes, I want to see our dynamic running backs get more touches also, but if they want to get away from being one dimensional, something has to be done to enhance the pass game.  Simple drop backs and reads are clearly not Riley Leonard's strength.

What say you?

This is a great analysis, and I agree with pretty much all of it!

I want to see Love and Price get at least 1/4 more touches each, and use them as decoys. Either one in the backfield and in the slot so if it’s not there for Leonard, he can use them as a dump off option to pick up those short and much needed yards.

More options for the TEs in the passing game at times. Maybe two or three TEs on the field, with one being a pass catcher and the others a blocker.

Oh, and misguided plays like a wheel route. Have not seen that at all so far this season, and that can be a big play to build Leonard’s confidence. I love that play too! I guess I don’t know much about Denbrock’s offense and if he even does that, but back in 2015 I saw these plays at times so I’m sure he could draw it up.

Love it.!

Love and Price need the ball more for sure.  As far as the play action and wheel routes, do you think it's a case of not showing too much for other teams to scout them in advance?  I don't know if that makes sense and for sure don't know if that's what's happening but there may be some merit to it.  At some point you have to break out some other wrinkles as you mentioned.  Hopefully it's this week 🙂

LETS GO IRISH!

That’s a good point, and maybe they are but I want to see it already! 😂

But yes, I hope we see something like it this week!

I don't wanna wish injury on anyone so how about Leonard to sleep on his shoulder the wrong way Friday night and makes it worse, Angeli to get a stomach bug forcing him to spend the weekend in his dorm room bathroom, Kenny Minchey starts.

I kinda put my thoughts in a different thread. But I’ll add.

I’d love to see Love out wide with Price in the backfield. Love can catch the ball. He would absolutely torch a linebacker.

Also, it’s not thought of much. But I actually Love Thomas’s game. He’s not used as much. The guy is another big body guy who I think given the chance can do some things. I think I heard he was 6th on the depth chart in the spring. Not sure if something happened. But let the guy eat. I just remember him making plays when he gets the chance.
There’s no reason with Price, Love, Collins, Mitchell, and Fiason that this team can’t get the offense going.

Totally agree with you here on all of these points.  My breakout prediction was Price (Smooth P) I think he needs the rock more

Agree. I know Love is a homerun hitter at any time. But Price has shown to do that with lesser carries.

For sure.  The dude is so smooth with the rock.  Love is super shifty and at times looks like a man among boys at how he abuses defenders but Price in the open field is virtually impossible to tackle...  Would love to see him catch the ball a little more too

I want to see a consistent offense execution with no self inflicted wounds like missed blocking assignments that lead to unblocked defenders, passes to wide open receivers that are uncatchable, and interception or fumbles.

I'm with you. Better overall execution. Pendelton 5 yard offside really messed up that first drive last week. Small things really matter.
