@Mike the rankings will change.

Big week. Are the Irish contenders or pretenders? Can the coaches adjust if adjustments are needed. Do they step up or play down to this big moment. How many big hits can Leonard take?

Hard to imagine holding up Louisville as the 'contenders or pretenders' game.  Yet here we are.

Louisville has a good team, but not a top 12 team.  Does ND have a top 12 team?  Based on the first 4 games, I'd say maaaayyyyybeee.

But, ND really isn't a title contender this year.  That has been made clear by the offensive offense.

I do think ND wins, by 10, because of the defense.  At least, that's how I feel today, Monday.  Sadly, I can see them losing by 10 or more just as easily.

Sigh.

Well said…such a Jekyll and Hyde performance with this team.

ND is a solid team but has shown nothing to suggest that it can contend for a title this year.  Unless we develop an offense that balances passing and rushing (maybe 60/65% rushing), any of the real contenders will stuff the run, develop a lead in a game, and feast when we are forced to pass to catch up.  I am not advocating for a change at QB; that is not my area of expertise.  It is just that whoever is at QB needs to be efficient and effective as a passer.  And perhaps the play calling can assist that some.

My thoughts….

Louisville will look good rushing the ball. Golden’s defense is designed to stop the pass first. Brohm knows this and will design to that.

ND’s run will look bad early on. But they must continue with it. They will stack the box and they have some dudes. So don’t expect rainbows and sunshine with the run game. I would honestly let the bowling ball Price get first crack and say run through these guys as much as you can. He has much better wiggle than Estime and will find holes that may not be there at first. Then bring in the speedy Love when they are getting gassed. It would be a switch up that they may not expect.

I hope they use motion early to get Louisville on its heels  I’d love to see Evans in motion crossing Leonard with Leonard rolling out with the option to pass to Mitchell or run Leonard.  Then the next play fake bubble screen and go big to Collins  Tell Leonard let loose and go deep if anything  maybe the guy needs to loosen up the arm to get him going. Taking a deep shot early will do that and let Louisville they are not afraid to go deep at any time.

Lastly, if Louisville is controlling the game with their defense, please run something counters this, draws and screens come to mind.  Play to win  play pissed off and show them why you are ND!
