bobbyskiND
Marcus Freeman will make a decision that will end his ND tenure. He will start Riley Leinard the rest of the year, not make the playoffs and be canned. Starting Angeli could save all that. If he starts Angeli the rest of way ND doesn't lose again until a playoff game. He will start Leonard based on bad Intel. He played well against Purdue. But did he? I say no. He can't read defenses or throw accurately. Angeli CAN and does. So long Marcus. Been nice knowing you.
Popular Post Tailgate Approved
Welcome to DD. I don't know if I'm in the minority, but I don't think there's any reason for people to give up on Freeman. The loss to NIU hurt. However, the reason it hurt so bad was because the expectations have grown. Freeman is the main reason for the increased expectations. He's improved the overall talent level, he's won big games, and he is a great representative for the university and program. As the COVID eligibilities expire, I think the chances of upsets by less talented but highly experienced teams will drop. Being the more talented team will be even more important, and having a great recruiter will be crucial. 1 2
FaithInIrish Forever
I think what I'd do is Keep Riley in there on 1st and second down and pick some 3rd downs that Angeli takes.

Exactly how I feel. Angeli can most definitely throw it. However, he holds the ball way too long, and if it’s not there, pretty much gets sacked. I saw that happen at least two times yesterday. Leonard starts, and does what Faith said, but if they need to pick up a 3rd and long, bring Angeli in to make a crucial throw.

4thand1
I can admit that Leonard's running ability is too good to completely exclude him from playing. I would strategically use Leonard when game action dictates it. I don't understand why some fans are able to see the obvious but a well paid football staff can't. 1
Last Century ND
I think the coaches should play Angeli on a regular basis. While I would start him, at a minimum I would play him on the 3rd series of the game. Three reasons. (1) I want opponents to have to prepare for both. (2) It is a smart hedge against injury. (3) It is a smart hedge against Leonard being ineffective. 1
USAFA03_HUGENDFAN
Before sitting in the stadium on Saturday I would have been all for anyone else playing over RL. However, Angeli is not the answer either. Is he more accurate absolutely but that’s a low bar. Is he as mobile? Not even close. Will he take more sacks? Yess. However, I’m not sure the passing woes are 100% on either QB. My buddy and I kept commenting that outside of the flat on check down , any WR was rarely open and zero separation. They were constantly covered. Hell Purdue keep the FS 20-30 yards off the LOS almost the whole came. It was nuts. As much as I hate a 2 QB system it may be needed against the Lou and USC. No one else should give them fits but we all thought that about NIU too. Lastly, I would love to see a blowout every game that I was watching on TV but Saturday was a terrible game for a fan in the stands. Hell the Purdue student section was empty before halftime and after the first TD in the third quarter the only people left seemed to be ND fans. 1
irishwavend
It’s melodramatic to say Freeman will be fired this year. He has at least 5 years if not more. He’s doing pretty good, even if he isn’t getting to “great.” He’s young, so he has a learning curve that I think we knew about when we hired him. There’s gonna be a lot of patience. I used to be a huge Angeli fan until I saw a few of his throws/decisions yesterday. I understand why Leonard is ahead of him, now. 2
ndmike88
RL's running ability is exactly why ND wanted him. 1
InLikeFlynn
You have to pick a guy and roll with him. In my opinion, stick with Leonard if you feel he is your guy. Can you imagine the blow in confidence when you tell your starter, " Hey we need to throw here so go put on a headset" Also, throwing a guy in for one play (In this case Angeli) and expecting him to convert on big plays is unrealistic and a very tough ask, they are who they are with Leonard or with Angeli.. I roll with Leonard if he is going to make plays the way he did on Saturday. I will take no passing touchdowns if we run for over 300 yards and score 66 points 🙂 GO IRISH
