Denbrock Concerns...

Recommended Posts

Haven't posted much as this site seems to hate negative questions about reality but now everyone is negative. Ha

I said for two years that Daniel's lsu qb covered up for Kelly/Denbrock as that dude just made plays. I wasn't too excited to hire a Kelly disciple. I hated Kelly's offense. But anything was better than that dude last year at OC.

Anyways, I read today after Love's great td run, he got 1 more carry!! Love and Price had a total of 15 carries. How could you not get ball back to Love our best offensive player? Why do OC's out think themselves? Will Denbrock create his own offensive identity or just be another Kelly and run an annoying offense with no identity? This offense should be based on Kansas State offense last year with Howard. Lots of QB runs and play action and RPO.

The win over the Aggies was not spectacular but it did appear ND established a good run game in the second half.  The game Saturday was more of an opportunity to call a game consistent with the personnel.  If ND cannot stretch the field, it should at least be able to pound the ball forward.  However, on the first drive we saw too much of the QB run.  Run the ball (especially with a chance to bleed out the clock in the fourth quarter).

I think it’s fair to question every aspect of the team, though the performance of the secondary has been pretty bulletproof thus far. I think that whether anyone says it or not, part of the game plan had to be to get Leonard throwing the ball. His performance against TAMU left a lot of question marks and we needed answers. I believe we got those answers and hopefully we move on. Kelly did not manage to take a good QB and make him better, Denbrock may be just the same. Hoping the season turns around and we are all wrong, but barring that I hope they make a good hire across the board.

I sit here and question Guidugli as well! Is Leonard just incapable, or is Guidugli not that good of a QB coach?

I think its more how many 1 year schemes can kids retain.

Hopefully, Denbrock stays around and builds an offensive culture. We desperately need consistency.

They really do, because not having that stable consistency really is the biggest part of the problem.

I heard a podcast this morning and one of the things they said was maybe the offense needs to be simplified a bit for Leonard.  Take more advantage of his skills and abilities rather than having Leonard fit into the offense as it sits.  I think there is some merit to that.  I really hope we see a major improvement this Saturday.  It makes the games more fun to watch and my kids love the daddy they see after a win  🙂

I like a triple option approach from the shotgun, rpo kinda deal

The offense is a lot like Kelly. All shotgun. Lots of WR screens and short possesion routes.  No commitment to the running backs and the offensive line to wear down the defensive front 7.

As far as results, the offense reminds me of Ara's in 1965 with Bill Zloch, where a weak accuracy QB runs a lot.

I know this will have some eyes rolling, but I like Parker’s offense. Meaning l, he tried to establish something. The run game which I’m all for. I just think it stalled because of the lack of receivers they were working with daily. But there was a little identity. I agree. Denbrock s offense feels a lot like Kelly’s. But I’m willing to let it go since he has provided some high offenses in the past.

Boy did they ever. 362 Rush yards. Army/Navy/Airforce would be good for those numbers!

I know, and boy was I happy to see it!

And if they keep leaning heavy on the run, this team will go very far!
