Reminds me of Chuck Martin. Veteran coach. Might not be Saban's first choice but he's called a ton of games at Utah, Cal, and Oregon.
I believe he would bring all of Rees multiple tight ends with a tendency to go direct snap under center sometimes, just like Martin did for Golson.
I believe that there will be fewer passing concepts, but they will be able to execute the ones they call. Rees borrowed every play he could from the NFL and other colleges. That's fine. BUT you need to hang your hat on something. I believe we had so many plays that the kids lost focus on run, block catch, secure the ball and score points at times. I don't see that with Ludwig. In the first half of the USC games Utah struggled but they stayed with it, made adjustments not full-scale changes, and won the game.
I think Ludwig has a chance to be a mature and calming influence where Rees brilliant but he seemed at times difficult to pinpoint a pattern to his thoughts. One moment its 13 the next series everyone is flexed out and the backfields empty.
I can see why Freeman would like Ludwig. Ludwig Still likes the power running game. The schemes that Rees had success with will stay. However, the constant need to be doing whatever the NFL is doing will be replaced by a steady idea of lets get whatever we do install right, every time.
Stay tuned might need to have thoughts on other finalists if this doesn't come to fruition.
