Watched the YouTube videos on Ludwig

  • Reminds me of Chuck Martin. Veteran coach. Might not be Saban's first choice but he's called a ton of games at Utah, Cal, and Oregon.
  • I believe he would bring all of Rees multiple tight ends with a tendency to go direct snap under center sometimes, just like Martin did for Golson.
  • I believe that there  will be fewer passing concepts, but they will be able to execute the ones they call. Rees borrowed every play he could from the NFL and other colleges. That's fine. BUT you need to hang your hat on something. I believe we had so many plays that the kids lost focus on run, block catch, secure the ball and score points at times. I don't see that with Ludwig. In the first half of the USC games Utah struggled but they stayed with it, made adjustments not full-scale changes, and won the game.
  • I think Ludwig has a chance to be a mature and calming influence where Rees brilliant but he seemed at times difficult to pinpoint a pattern to his thoughts. One moment its 13 the next series everyone is flexed out and the backfields empty.
  • I can see why Freeman would like Ludwig. Ludwig Still likes the power running game. The schemes that Rees had success with will stay. However, the constant need to be doing whatever the NFL is doing will be replaced by a steady idea of lets get whatever we do install right, every time.
  • Stay tuned might need to have thoughts on other finalists if this doesn't come to fruition.

Excellent info.  I would also say that at age 58 or 59, he's not likely to be looking to make another move if he accepts the job offer.

Gotta watch it all the way through. There is nothing beautiful about this offense except the final score but notice we have all these plays already. Its ND football running backs wearing down the opponent tight ends and receivers on catches and the runs. The play design would go to Rees but its the same here we come, try and stop us mentality

Except I’m sure Ludwig is mature enough to recognize and stick with the running game versus Rees who seemed like calling a running play was forcing him to pull a tooth each time.  Tommy hated running the ball….and it cost us.

Yeah I don't care about the beauty and excitement the offense generates.  I just want it to be effective and score points.

Freeman needs an experienced  OC who will mesh with the other young coaches on offense. Ludwig is the best choice out there and I am surprised Saban did not sniff him first

You're right Faith, this O is not a thing of beauty. But it was certainly very effective against USC. Gotta say, #7 on USC got abused big time in this vid! Guy needs to learn how to tackle.

Me either give me the 40 points any way they arrive and I'm happy.

Agreed. He'll have plenty of receivers at Bama

Yup same reason he wanted Golden. Freeman wants to be hands on recruiting and delegate game-planning. Hard to do both.

I think that ND will need the power run game next year for ball control as I think our defense will take a slight step back.  We want to eat up clock so the defense can rest and adjust.  I also think the power run will set up Hartman nicely.

He knows how to beat SC!

Ludwig sounds like the top candidate out of the bunch. If MF can pull this off i will feel like we just upgraded massively over Tommy. No hard feelings Tommy, but i will be stoked.

He is staying at Utah, the buyout was to much. We do not want to play big boy football.

Man I done spending on ND, I will watch but why invest in a product that cares nothing about competing.

If I am Freeman I am out of here first lifeboat.

How do you know he’s not part of making this decision?  You don’t…

That would bring another layer of concern. Parker says so much without saying anything. It is a lazy hire and the whole process is a joke.
