I'm going to give you four players that to me turn an ugly start, into a season that allows you to recruit a transfer like Sam Hartman

  • JD Bertrand
  • DJ Brown
  • Josh Lugg
  • Drew Pyne

JD Bertrand led the team in tackles by far.

DJ Brown was durable played over 500 snaps. Brandon Joseph struggled with availability

Josh Lugg had his critics but started every single game despite a career plagued by Injury

Of Course when ND had No QB Pyne despite his stuggles helped put 8 wins on the board.

Now, I know 9 wins is below standard. But would Hartman be playing for a 6 win ND or less. I'm not sure. I'm thankful these guys were available to be the example the Freeman Era can Build on.

Patterson/Correll. - once they got going it gelled and allowed ND to run the ball.

Pyne - man he was awful vs Cal. Just dreadful. But he did salvage the season. Him leaving also allowed Hartman free reign to feel welcomed here.

Bracy - When he was out the defense struggled. When he came back. They were decent.

Special teams - is that allowed? If not for the blocks, who knows if ND wins some of those games.

I concur.   The special teams really did well this season and helped change the course of games.  Those units had become such an afterthought for years at ND even before BK, probably since Lou.  It was so refreshing to see how that portion of our game can really make a big difference and make opponents have to game plan and fear those units again.
