One injury away from being the starter no matter where you are...  moving forward...  will we see Buckner starting next year?  Or will a transfer (Hartman) take over... 

If transfer takes over....does Buchner start his final year?  Giving minchy another year to develop? 

Wonder how that scenario plays out with Carr coming ...if he lives up to the hype

If Hartman does not come, ND would be one of the most QB needy teams in the nation next year.  Because Buchner is freaking abysmal.   Just because you are a massive, green colored glasses homer does not mean you cant be informed of reality.

Apparently the coaching staff (you know, the guys who are actually on the practice field and in the QB meeting room) came to the same conclusion after spring and summer football:  Buchner gives ND a better chance to win than Pyne. 
Hard to see how Faith was wrong in that assessment. I don’t know a thing about Madden ratings, so I can’t say anything about 90 vs 85. But conceptually, the coaches who make their living and stake their careers on putting the QB they think gives ND the best chance to win on the field chose Buchner.

Look.  The hot takes you like to post are fine.  I agree with some, I oppose some.  I won't, nor should anyone else, ask you to change your point of view or your opinions.  What I am going to ask you to do is dial back the tone a bit.  Quite frankly you're coming off quite douchey if I do say so.  You can state your opinions without being an asshole to other members.  We're all fans of the same team here.  There is no need to attack people like this.

I would start by not using a single performance in an exhibition level, meaningless bowl game as your barometer to laude Tyler Buchner. 

If you are in any way/shape/form an objective and knowledgable football fan, you would understand that his pocket awareness, throwing motion,  feet mechanics, and arm strength/accuracy are all very, very poor.   Just watch the damn games - he shot put heaves even the most basic throws.

Well, Sam Hartman would just be a single year, bandaid on a larger problem.  But yeah, I think he would be a welcome addition. 

I do not think guys like Wimbush. Ian Book, Jack Coan, Drew Pyne, Tyler Bucher ever gave ND (With very talented teams around them) a serious chance to win in the CFP. 

I think the above QBs ND has slogged through over the last 5 years have been, quite frankly, embarrassing to the program. 

Hartman would at least give them something dynamic under center, for a year.   The other 5 above, were all the NCAAFB versions of Andy Dalton - you need a near-perfect team around them to have them be above competent. 

The real issue is Notre Dames inability to change and think differently.    If Hartman is the QB in 23' fine - that is 5x better than a wasted season of letting Buchner win 4 games. 

But. they need to find and commit to a dynamic Freshman in the 2024 season - Carr, Minchey - whoever they think is the one....they should be given the chance to run this team for 3 years or more.   Stop the Yo Yo-ing and stop the pedestrian QB play.

I agree 100%.  I, like you, want so badly that stud multiple year franchise star QB1 for Notre Dame.

Got it.  But how can you watch an exhibition game like this bowl, and use it as cause to promote Buchner for next year?

Do you not understand what harm that will do to the program?  They will win 3-5 games, potentially lose carr and possibly other recruits.  It will set them back 2+ years. 

Do you watch him play, and actually think he's the QB to run this team in 2023?

Hartman's the safe choice. Buchner has mobility which you can't teach. As the baseball saying goes, "Speed never goes in a slump. 99 percent they'll make the safe choice. So then the worst case is Buchner Transfer and your back to a good player in young kids but with no experience. Last time we started a freshman I believe Clausen was 3-9 2007. I lived through that it wasn't fun.
