FaithInIrish Forever
"With Jaylen, basically when they brought in an extra tight end or o-lineman, we brought in an extra backer and took off a corner just to match personnel. That was his role. When they went heavy personnel, we went heavy personnel, and he was going to go play man to man on the tight end. coltssb
Ok. Just to let you know how bad it was in the second half. Posted on Twitter. Pyne 3/5 35yds 1 Int 5 Sacks 6 total net yds on offense. Ok, my research and doing a very brief scroll through. Just so people can decide on who’s at fault of their own belief. 1st DRIVE SECOND HALF up 19 pts and 7 mins to go in the third. SACKED for a loss of 5 yards. Run for 1 yard. 3rd and 14 draw. Run for 4 yards. Cut scene shows both Freeman and Rees throwing there hands up. Pyne looking confused on either the call or the check. 2ND DRIVE Overthrow to Mayer. Pyne hit on the release. SACKED for a loss of 5 yards. Completed pass to Thomas. 16-17 yards for first down. SACKED. Run for 0 yards. SACKED 3rd DRIVE Short pass for 6 yards to Mayer. Run for two yards Run for loss. Estime was hit as he was being fed the ball. No chance. 4th DRIVE 5:24 left of the game SACKED for a loss of 6 yards Run for 1 yard Screen pass for 6 yards(where has that been?) PUNT my impressions are pretty much the same. Navy doesn’t give you possessions so ND needed to get a couple more first downs to make this an easy victory. Obviously, they didn’t So, play-calling was pass 9 passes to 7 runs with a 19 point lead Play-calling was very Kelly like-pass on first, get sacked, run for minimal gain, then either run or pass for nothing on third down and then punt. ND was behind the chains three of the 4 drives because they started off by getting sacked. Pyne had guys open. They were selling out on EVERY PLAY. Screens would of helped with that. I blame Rees for his reluctance for wanting to pass on first and not stay ahead of the chains with a lead. But I also blame Pyne for not being able to see and missing open targets. The line also played like shit. Pyne didn’t have a lot of time but either the play-calling should of helped with that or Pyne should of checked to something different. It’s not like Navy wasn’t tipping their hand on defense every play. Also, Pyne’s comments post game were discerning. He said he knew they were running cover 0 and it was hard some crap like that. Almost like he didn’t have a clue what to do in that situation. Either way, bad bad bad play all the way around.

Freeman already recognized the need to make the progression read simpler and communicated it to Rees, so thats good. I can get you the quote after work, but its in tom loy's article. Good insights!!!
