I didn’t think Coach Freeman had it in him to lose this game.  I’m really impressed. That’s what all the great losers do.  When the game is close, they reach down not-so-deep and they find a way

1. Special teams were good.

2. QB position is in trouble Buchner hurt, Pyne, etc ineffective

3, Defense failed when they were needed on a 90+ field.

4. Tip of the cap to Marshall.

intelligent conversation...

Man the QB play was not good.  It's going to be a long season,  thankfully the NFL starts tomorrow.

Can't see any elite recruit wanting to come to this mess

Is it really Rees's fault? You can only do so much with garbage.

Yes, they play calling was atrocious and his recruiting has been spotty. He is over his head.

No doubt the recruiting has been off. Also no doubt that the player development is not there. The most important position is the QB and we deserve a big "F" for that!

I will keep watching, but I may go to my local team games. Cal and UNC could easily beat us. We could start 0-4.

Good: TE game continues to be strong

Bad: Lots. O line sticks out as the worse.

I know they are talking about no ND coach had ever started 0-3 but it is a different world. No ND coach ever had to compete with schools buying recruits. No ND coach ever had to prepare for crazy 5 star transfers popping up at Marshall.

There is no analog for Freeman’s experience. He should have gone after some transfers but he also had to keep the loyalty of the locker room. He is going to have to make some hard decisions to be successful and it won’t make him a lot of friends I suspect.

Buchner is not the answer so this is going to be a rough season with no help in sight. Coan papered over these cracks last year.

How ND has not been able to recruit and develop even a mediocre college QB is beyond me. Maybe Book qualifies these but it's just incredible how miserable this position has been.

This has been driving me nuts as well.

I look at a Pitt, they have Kenny Pickett and now Kedon Slovis, extremely competent and capable.

UNC had Mitch Trubisky and Sam Howell.

Louisville gets Lamar Jackson

Georgia Tech gets Jeff Sims

Like I look at all these lesser programs, and I look how miserable they’ve been, as programs, but they all can still get way better QBs than we’ve gotten in 20 years!  What the hell?

I was on Mgoblog during the Ohio State game and this comment really stung me someone said: “Why do ND QBs all look and play like they’re in high school still?”

I tried to brush it off but, not so far down, I knew it was the truth.
